I'll shop at goodwill for unique and vintage items that are the current trend but NOT just like everyone else is wearing. Who likes to walk down the street and see someone else wearing the same thing you are. UGH!
Alot of people think that goodwill and thrift stores just have junk - little do they know that it's the folks with more money than they know what to do with who donate the high end stuff to charities like goodwill and salvation army. I've gotten authentic yves saint laurent, pucci, marc jacobs, sonia rykiel and other designer clothing while thriftin at a fraction of a fraction of what I'd pay if I went to the mall!
The other thing some people say is that the clothes are unwashed. Uh - hello - wash or dry clean them before wearing. Folks forget there hundreds of people that try on clothes at the mall too. They aren't washed when you buy them thinking they are brand spankin new and then rip the tags off and wear it without washing first. Who knows if those people who have tried stuff on before you bought it were nasty sweaty or if they wore undergarments. It's gross but it's something to think about. I wash or dry clean practically EVERYTHING I buy before wearing it cuz ya never know!
Shopping at second hand stores is also good way to save money towards buying those big ticket items you've just got to have that can only be found at the mall. It's not about being poor - heck - there are PLENTY of looks we've oogled over in the magazines on some celebrity that their stylist picked up at a thrift store or vintage shop (and where do you think the vintage shop got it from????). It's about being SMART with your money and having the best of both worlds!
anyway - that's my input - hope it helped!

sh*t girl....I go to both. The mall more than good will, but there have been times that at goodwill i find clothes from Express with the tags still on them! I would rather find it at goodwill and pay 3 bucks than go to Express and pay 60!

Goodwill. The money you spend there goes back into your community to help people with disabilities have a productive job and purpose in life.

I shop at both. I LOVE goodwill and thrift stores to find vintage things and things that everyone doesn't have. I don't like looking EXACTLY like everyone else. I love American Eagle but it seems that everyone has the same stuff so I make it my own with pieces that I find at thrift stores.

I check out the Goodwill periodically, just for jeans though. Found a pair of Abercrombie's with the tags still on them. Not too bad for $3! I won't look through the other stuff though.
