This will be our second marriage for both of us. My boyfriend of 3 1/2 years has finally decided to become engaged to me. So why has he not told any one about this, not his friends or worse yet his family?

I don't think it's natural. Its sounds very strange to me. An Engagement is the first move to a lifetime commitment (Marriage!) So if he is afraid to tell his family that he is getting married to the woman that he loves and plans to spend his life with.....something is very wrong. He may either be not sure of his decision or just too childish to confront his feelings to his family. Then you need to ask yourself if it is a BOY that you want to marry or a MAN?

You may have to ask him the exact reason behind it. But maybe he is scared people will question it, since it is a second for both of you. But you've been together for 3 and a half years, so it's not like you're jumping into anything too quickly. Men are strange creatures. Who knows why they do anything they do, or don't do in his case. ;-) Just ask him. Good luck!!

My fiance didn't tell anyone he was proposing. He's just private like that. He didn't tell his dad until the next afternoon (and he's close to his family) and he didn't want me to yell it to my friends for a few days either. He's just very private. At first I took this a little hard, figuring maybe he was ashamed?? But then I realized... this guy was private for the 3 years we dated! Why wouldn't he be private about this too :o)

If he has not yet formally proposed then no, it's not strange that he hasn't told people. He may want to wait until it's "official" (as in ring on finger, date on calendar). He may be concerned about negative reactions, especially since you've both been married before. Also, if his family is not local or they're not particularly close emotionally he may not be worried about telling them until closer to the wedding.

Now, if he has formally proposed and you're making plans and his family is local, then yes, it's definitely strange and you need to talk to him about it.

That means trouble for sure. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if he was happy about it he would have told everyone.

I sure hope you ask him this question, and soon. How can we know what's in his head? It is pretty odd that he should be like that.....

He probably doesn't want them to know.
