My wife and I have been together for 5 years and married for 2.

She is 24 and I am 26 and we are planning our first baby.

About a year ago we decided we wanted a baby, so we have been traveling a lot, spending extra time around kids, and preparing other way (replaced my car with a safer one, training our dog to be kid friendly, and doing home improvements, etc.)

We are financially set now as we finished school, bought a house, and landed stable careers a few years ago that we actually love.

We feel prepared because we are happy in our marriage and we know we are financially, mentally and emotionally stable for a family.

We really wanted to have our ducks in a row before conceiving, and we know 2007 is the year for us to have our baby!

How did you know you were prepared as a couple to have a baby?

I knew we were ready when we ran out of excuses not to have one!

When you find yourself asking "Why not?" then you're probably ready. Good luck!

I hope you realize how lucky you are. Most couples are never ready. I don't think I will ever be ready, but I want children more than anything. We have been together five years as well, I am 25, he is 26... We bought a house, but it is our first and only 2 bedrooms. He has credit card debt and is going back to school for his job as an electrician. I just know usually people say if you wait until you have enough money to have a baby, you'll wait forever. So I will have them when God wants me to. Congratulations, and good luck!!!

First of all I would like to Congratulate you guys, for having your life in order and actually giving having children a lot of thought! I think that is great.
I really wasn`t prepared at all. All of my kids were not planned (but wanted). I wasn`t financially stable (still not), scared to death (still am), but I just knew that it was the right time. Sometimes you just don`t know until it happens, you know? You can`t plan everything in life, but hats off to you for trying!
Good luck to you!

It sounds like you are in the best position possible to be starting a family, you are both stable. Both of you are mentally and financially ready to raise and support a family. It sounds to me like you have your heads on straight, I think you will make good parents because it sounds like you care enough to be prepared for the children before they come. Good luck with your family...

WOW! You are so prepared!! I don't think I know anyone who is as prepared as you are for parenthood. In my experience people who already had children always told me if you were preparing to have kids you would never have them, meaning there is never a right or wrong time to have them. I like to think I was prepared when I was having my first baby. One things I was NOT prepared for was TWINS! LOL

Good Luck and my very best wishes to you, your wife and future family!

It's hard to know when you are truly prepared for a child if you think and you know in your heart and mind that you are ready then go for it good luck. I believe at anytime in someones life that they are truly not prepared for a child because it's a big change, but once you find out that you are expecting a bundle of joy that this is when you are truly prepared to have a child.

"We feel prepared because we are happy in our marriage and we know we are financially, mentally and emotionally stable for a family."

What about spiritually? You left out the most important thing!

As a dad, I'm not sure you can really prepare for the unpreparable, anyway-kids will throw you curve balls-depend on that! Ask God for help, and make sure you know Him, too. Details available, if interested. [see below]

It seemed like the perfect time. I know this sounds corney, but you just "know". Sounds like you have it down. The 1st is all nerve racking and everything has to be perfect..... When ever you decide to have a 2nd, it will be much easier. One day my husband said "lets have a kid", and i said "okay".... You know when you are prepared... good luck! You'll have so much fun!

We dated for 3+ years, married for 7 years before finally deciding to have a baby. Took us 6 months longer to get pregnant - but we were both ready.
Only you can know when you are ready.
And when you guys get the million dollar question:
(when are you going to have a baby??)
...start charging quarters!!!
