Okay.... I can hardly boil water. I have two very young children and I think it's time I learn to cook. Does anyone know of any cooking classes or other options on how I can get some hands-on classes that are after 7pm in the Central NJ area??

Take the money you were going to spend on classes and buy a few cookbooks. I swear by Betty Crocker and Better Homes and Gardens. I bought Betty Crocker 10 years ago and I'm still going back to it. I just bought Better Homes and Gardens this year so I'm discovering a few new recipes. Start with Betty Crocker first, though-- it just has more recipes and explains techniques a little more.

Forget about classes. Just watch the food network. Youll learn how to cook in no-time && they have great recipes you can try. Also the shows are very entertaining especially 30 minute meals and Everyday Italian (my fav <3). ...Learning to cook for free. It cant get any better than that.

Good Luck && Hope this helps

The best way to learn how to cook is through experimentations. You should start small at home.I would buy a recipe book with fast easy recipes.I would try to cook some of those recipes.Just remember practice makes perfect.Goodluck

You would learn more in 2 semesters of quantity food prep and 2 semesters of commercial baking than you would in 10 years of trying to figure it out on your own.
I have managed to dig up two possible schools for you.
Atlantic Cape Community College in Cape May and Atlantic City
609-343-4900
and
Bergen Community College in Paramus 201-447-1700
Give them a call see what they have to say.
I personally would lean towards ACCC because it's seems that their program is more geared towards creating chefs rather than restaurant managers .
