Chamomile tea works very well, and is safe for her.
Dump it out of the teabag, and use 1 teaspoon for small breed, up to 1 tablespoon for a large breed. Mix it in a little canned food, such as Mighty Dog, or Cesar's, and give about 30 minutes before she needs to relax. It will keep her happy, but reduce stress. It can be given as needed.
You will find Chamomile in your grocer's tea section.
If you call your vet, he may recommend the doseage of Benadryl, depending on the dogs age, overall health, and weight..

Training won't sort out if dogs just don't like each other, like humans they don't all just get along. Giving a dog a human sedative or anything like that will merely act as a muscle relaxant, not sedate it, any vet can tell you that. They have specialised medication for dogs (if you give a cat a human sedative it acts as a apetite stimulant, has different effects on all animals). Remember if you sedate your dog, he is defenceless against the other alert animals. I agree with Alex, training is the way to go with this, but not jusdt a training school, a trainer who specialises in behavioural problems with animals.

RE:
Does anyone know of a legitimate sedative for dogs?
I have a sharpei and it's very difficult to cut her nails because i guess it's one of their pet peeves or something. She absolutely hates it and is starting to get violent when we try to grab her feet to cut her nails. Can anyone offer some advice before i go to the Vet to ask?

You could tray an all natural remedy called Bach's Flower Essences, Rescue Remedy. I use it to calm one of my dogs and holistic vets recommend it.
Also, if she hates getting her nails cut you can try very gently holding her paws, one after another. Put the clippers close to her feet and just pretend to cut. She'll get used to the noise they make and realize nothing's hurting her. When she accepts this, try snipping just a tiny tip off the nail, gradually increasing as she gets more accepting. Make sure you stay very calm, if you're tense she'll pick up on that in a second and think she has reason to be worried. If you give her the Bach's before trying, you need to give it 15 - 20 minutes to take affect.

I have gotten a sedative for my dogs a few times and each time it was valium. Have to get it from a vet, I don't really know the strength. Try taking your dog to a groomer, they know how to do it better and don't charge as much as a vet.

I have an older dog(15). I let the Vet cut his nails, because he gets agitated when I do it.
