Thats pretty hard.

Avoid having any surfaces that will encourage them to relieve themselves. So get rid of any gravel or bark mulch.

Avoid providing any sort of areas for them to hunt mice and birds.

I'm guessing you don't like cats. But if you do, you could get a really big tom cat. That might help.

Getting a dog is a waste of time. Most cats will antagonise dogs by sitting just out of reach and making them bark all the time.

There are some electronic measures, like ultrasonic cat deterants. I don't know how effective these are though. You might want to as a question specifically about these products. Link below.....

Good Luck

my dad's favourute is the inner tubes of bike tyres cut open so that they look like a long tube, the cats think that it's snakes, cats really don't like snakes. He also has 2 litre bottles filled with water around the garden, he hasn't had bother with cats since he did this. Hope this helps and works for you, there is nothing worse than having a really nice garden, only for it to be destroyed by the local cats.

I have a long running battle with my neighbours cat at the moment. We leave our bin bags outside the back door which incidently is below my bedroom. He sneakily tries to get at any tasty chicken bones by ripping the bags open. It's always at about 2-3 in the morning cos he thinks im asleep but i sleep with the window open and i have the hearing of a dog. I creep out of bed and over to the window without turning the lights on, and try to throw things at him. Nothing nasty, stuff like rolled up toilet rolls etc. But the cheeky swine would just run out of reach of my attempts to hit him and then go back when its safe. So i thought i would have him with a jug of water. Its been waiting at the window cill for a week now but he knows somethings up. I'm gonna start tempting him with whole warm cooked chickens just so i can get him. I cant wait.

Try a sprinkler, or a water hose, they will get the picture pretty fast. Also, if you have a Wal Mart, they sell these misters that attach to your garden hose that put out a fine water mist. They are supposed to keep you cool if you are sitting outside, but they work great to keep cats away from an area, too. Good luck with that.

I believe the empty plastic bottles filled with water do keep cats away they act like a mirror except due to the shape of the bottle the cats reflection appears way bigger that the actual cat looking in to it so they run away, I would use these and the Rue plant and the lemon and garlic and pepper. Hi, I may be an expert of everything not to try!!!!!! unfortunately I am allergic to the blighters anyway, But I have a nice flower bed they keep pooping in!!

I don't know where to get one but one of those black silohette cats with crystal or glass eyes seems to do the trick. I bought a few currys plants off ebay for £3 for 3 and they help a bit!!

Hi there...Common odours that are effective deterrents for cats are:

Citronella works best for cats as well as citrus scents such as orange or lemon (primarily towards cats), cayenne pepper, coffee grounds, pipe tobacco, lavender oil, lemon grass oil, citronella oil, peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, and mustard oil.

"Havahart's Cat Repellent" uses capsaicin pepper and oil of mustard as its active ingredients. It repels by both taste and odor, has a lemon scent.

Every animal responds differently to each of these. Some will not be phased by them and others will be quite revolting.

For training purposes they are applied on items that are to encourage avoidance behaviours and not for use with a squirt bottle as they could harm the eyes or respiratory system. Test each substance and observe to see which works as a deterrent so that accidental injestion does not occur as some could then be fatal.

Coleus plants can be effective, but every cat responds differently so it is uncertain without experimenting.

MOTHBALLS are toxic to cats which contains the ingredient Naphthalene. Mothballs are approximately twice as toxic as paradichlorobenzene, and cats are especially sensitive to naphthalene. Signs of ingestion of naphthalene mothballs include emesis, weakness, lethargy, brown-colored mucous membranes and collapses. Paradichlorobenzene mothballs may cause GI upset, ataxia, disorientation, and depression. Elevations in liver serum biochemical values may occur within 72 hours of indigestion.

Sounds weird, but try large (2-litre) plastic bottles filled with water. Lay them down on their sides in random places around the garden. You don't need a lot, obviously depends on the size of your garden!

It definitely works. My neighbour started using them because she got fed up with my cats going into her garden and teasing her dogs (!), and they very soon stopped. Mind you, it didn't stop them sitting on the fence and driving the dogs mad that way!
