It's a good thing you are doing further research into this.

I once knew a guy that had the exact same thing as you described, and later it turned out to be an alien that tore its way out of his chest and he died.

My ex has them on his chest also and he just had one removed on his neck and the doctors say it is only a cyst,He is going to have the ones on his chest removed just to be sure,I wonder if that is any relation to the pancreas cancer he just found out he has and has 6 months to live at the age of 39..Go get them removed.....

I think you should listen to your doctor. He has been to school and has experience in this. You have not been to school for medical and don't have the experience.
Abscesses can be rock hard.
