To my taste, for the most part yes, but it depends on the country.

On the other hand, American chocolate is made to mass American taste, as most defined by Hershey a hundred years ago (NPR's "On Point" show had an interesting program about the history of this a couple of months ago).

My biggest gripe is how American companies, except for a few artisans, will not make European style chocolate for the part of the marketplace that much prefers it. Well, maybe now that European style butters made in the USA are becoming more popular the
chocolate makers will take a hint.

I agree, Ann. European chocolate is much better than in America. I try to buy European chocolate whenever I can get it.

ABSOLUTELY!!! here the chocolate is like wax, lots of fat and no taste. If you want true chocolate have some Belgian or Russian chocolates, preferably semi-dark or dark.

My wife, who is Russian, certainly agrees. She won't eat milk chocolate. Has to be dark chocolate and the darker the better.
