Taking tins in the hold of a plane is not prohibited by most airlines as it does not endanger the aircraft. However, if its an international flight most countries do not allow the carriage of food into the country so you might have problems at customs.

It is certainly ok to carry tinned food into the aircraft hold. The only problems it will cause are on your wallet as you only get on average 20kg's luggage allowance and tins of food weigh a lot so expect some excess baggage charges.

I've taken a can of deodorant into the hold of a plane before, and it was fine.
I would assume a tin of food is fine, because a can of deodorant has much more pressure.

Well....it's better in the hold than in the cabin! I had a guy aboard open up a tin of sardines as he preferred them to the in-flight meal; it stunk the whole plane up and nearly caused a riot in the cabin, even first class was bitching!

Yes it is fine. However the country you are travelling to might have food import restrictions. Also any items that are flammable or toxic must be declared as hazardous and packed under IATA regualtions and stored in the cargo hold. If you need further advice contact your nearest freight forwarder who can arrange packing of hazardous items for you which you then collect from the receiving agents warehouse at destination. no, as security will have to open the tins to test if they are food, in doing so it would make it void as you can't take food on board unless it is in original packaging

if its a tin of very very hot currry that will blow ya pants off NO because you cant take explosive things on planes
