I certainly wouldn't want any part of this god, particularly for not believing in him when I've been given absolutely no evidence of his existence.

I couldnt have said it better than some of the other responses. God doesnt condemn you ...you are doing that perfectly yourself. All God ask is for you to follow 10 commandments and in return he gives you everlasting life, his only son who is sent from a beautiful place called heaven to our world of sin (he took beatings that no other wouldve taken for another plus he never sinned) a second chance from all the wrong you do or did. We will never be perfect no matter what and you will never be above God either or his son Jesus for that matter ...open your eyes and see who's really being vain and vindictive and whose condemning themselves to the abyss or hell if you prefer.

Not only that, what kind of a father would condemn his son to an agonizing death on the cross? Such a kind and loving god...
We are quick to condemn Muslims for sending their children to death as suicide bombers when the christian god did exactly the same to his only child.

Who are you to question Him that opens the windows of Heaven to let down the sweet, sweet rain? Who are you to disbelieve Him that keeps big warehouses of snow handy for the mountain tops?(Job) Who are you to argue with Him who sent Himself down to save your everlasting soul, then wondered why He had forsaken Himself? Look, it's perfectly simple, you can spend your time mumbling prayers to Him and loving Him OR you can go to Hell. Isn't that reasonable? I'll just be amazed if some Christian doesn't:-
a) Turn tables on you here and claim that it is you who are being vain and vindictive to yourself for condemning yourself to Hell
b) Explain that your reading your Bible without the help of the Holy Spirit.
c) Overrule you,"You've taken the whole thing out of context."

For the very same reason a parent forbids their child from using their custom, one-of-a-kind, and very priceless car if every time they take it out for a drive, it comes back looking like it went through a trash compactor, having graffiti all over it, and the gas tank full of sugar.
He let you use life that He created, and you've gone and disrespected Him, filled the blood He gave you with sin, and refuse to do such a tiny thing as to say "I'm sorry". You are one of a kind... unique in every way... yet you failed to appriciate this wonderful gift He's given you.
Are the parents being vain and vindictive because they forbid you from driving their life's work? Every penny they had was invested into the car that you see fit to destroy? No, they are justified. It was theirs, not yours. If you want to destroy a car, go and create your own... but do not destroy that which does not belong to you...
...now... Is God being vain and vindictive because He takes away the thing He has let you borrow? You have no right to claim your life as your own, for it was of *His* dust you were made, of *His* breath you came to life, and of *His* will alone that you remain living. Yet, these very things He has let you borrow, you have ruined. And you don't expect Him to be royally mad at you?
For crying out loud, all He asks is for you to say "sorry", promise you'll try to take good care of the life He's loaned to both you and others, and allow His Son to pay the cost for your mistakes. It's not that much He asks of you.
...and I hate to say it... but if you find yourself loaning something to someone, and it comes back dented, scratched... or doesn't come back at all... if you are so arrogant as to put yourself above God... then I dare you not to let it bother you... I *DARE* you to forgive each and every one of them, even if they spit in your face. I dare you to never let the thought of the destroyed item come to mind again.
I double that dare... that you are able to do the same thing if your beloved and only child goes missing, or dies at the hands of a murderer.
You do that, then you have the right, in my eyes, to question if God is being vain and vindictive.

No, that is why hell fire is a false teaching.
the Hebrew and Greek word we translate "hell" from means grave.
In 1611 'hell' meant "covered" to hell the potatoes didn't mean to cook them, it meant to place in the veg. cellar to keep them cool and fresh.

I could go on a very long discusion and tell you a fact that you have wrong in your primary question. For now though I will say this. Man condems himself by disobeying God, and thus brings judgement on himself. We have the Commandments and we are suppose to have the common sense that God gave us to use in life. I am not speaking of you in particular, but I can tell by your question that you have been mislead somewhere by someone. A good Book for you to read in the Bible is the Book of Proverbs, and when you get done with that, read the Gosple of John. Hope this helps.

God wants us to spend eternity with him sitting on the throne of heaven. The hell fires are what will happen to those who don't give their lives over to Christ and start living a Christ filled life
