There is a possibility depending on what anti-depressant you are taking. If you start to have suicidal feelings/thoughts you should contact your doctor immidiatley.

No it will not make you more suicidal, however, people are generally at a higher risk when they start to feel better. Anti depressants take 2-3 weeks to work so someone in thier 1st or 2nd week will feel a little better but still depressed. This is a dangerous time because the person is feeling well enough to plan and carry out a suicide. Someone who is severely depressed may be suicidal but not have enough motivation to do anthing about it. That same person who starts to feel better still has the same suicidal thoughts and now has the physical ability to do it. Once the antidepressants have reached thier full effectiveness, that person should no longer be suicidal.

There are a few exceptions to that rule and one of them is Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin has been found to cause suicidal tendencies in teenagers. This is only for teenager and it occurs with in a few days of starting the medication. In my oppinion, anyone under 25 should not take Wellbutrin.

You hear all the debate about that question all the time, and I think it freaks people out. Here's the truth: people are most likely to commit suicide as they are beginning to improve (from their depression). This is because people who are really depressed may feel suicidal, but they usually can't get organized enough to actually go through with it. If you get on anti-depressants, they will not necessarily make you FEEL more suicidal, but as you feel less tired and disorganized in general, it becomes possible for you to actually be able to go through with it.

So I think the media exaggerates that whole connection. A good psychiatrist will monitor your progress and keep you safe during the recovery process. I was extremely depressed, got on anti-depressants, and am still alive today (obviously). And no, I don't think they made me more suicidal. I've never regretted my decision to take them. What's important is to work closely with a good psychiatrist and to be open with him/her and to aim to live.

when you go on to a new anti depressant, you need to be very aware of your feelings. Sometimes the very first anti depressant works and sometimes you need to try another. Dr's. always start out on a low dose, and work there way up slowly, so it can be a slow process sometimes, but eventually you will feel better, so don`t ever give up...

that is an unusual side effect listed on the labels of some anti-depressants. Check with your doctor, and if you start thinking more about suicide, definitely tell your doctor, immediately.

If your depression is really serious enough no medicine will work. Go under a medical treatment plus a therapy with a therapist. I am hoping that you will be okay, sweetie. Thae care of yourself, okay? NOONE and NOTHING is worth being this upset about! Remember, "This too, shall pass".

Not in most cases, however there is that remote possibility so you should take them while under the care (at first at least) of a degreed Psychiatrist.
