I don't see why not. My son took it for many years. He would not have made it through school without it. There were no ill effects and he is a fine young man of 20 now.

I think u should do your homework and only use ritalin as a last resort. I had the same question many years ago with my own son, he has been on ritalin now for 8yrs and that seems to be the only solution that helped.
Some schools may not want him there without the ritalin if his ADD is affecting the classroom or his progress, u may want to think about it for just during school hours.

NO! Ritalin is a very bad choice! The chemicals in it affect the brain and has been heard of shrinkin the brain! My son is ADHD and he was diagnosed when he was in kindergarten. He takes Concerta 27mg and I can see a HUGE difference in him. Concerta does not have to be give 7 days a week either. It is taken 1 time a day every mornin and lasts 10 to 12 hrs. My son takes his pill by himself and when he has a good week at school, his dad and I will let him have a saturday as his "free" day, meaning he doesn't have to take his meds and we have a great day playing outside, riding 4 wheelers, playing frisbee, and enjoying our family. Do do your research though. My son sees a phciatrist every 3 months.

I think you should seriously talk this over with your doctor and a therapist. Maybe someone that specializes in child psych. It depends on how severe your son's symptoms are. If his school work is suffereing from his ADHD then I think you should consider meds, but also there are several ADHD meds out there. You need to talk with a doctor to see which one may be right for you son. You may also want to think about a combination of medication and some kind of behavior modification plan.

If ritalin is going to help control his behavior then the answer is yes! my son is 18 withADD and is no better now than when he was 2yrs old except he is more violent at times with the strenght and determation to hurt others and himself, I tried to get him help but only got him diagnosed when he was 14 and he refused help, I and his dad did not get a say. goodluck

No. Just let him be he will adjust and figure out a way to just live with it. Plus I think that giving Ritalin to a child ruins them.

If your son has been diagnosed with ADD then consult your doctor and find out the best coarse of action, if he does and you put him on a medication, then involve him in something active, so he can remained focuses and alert, this will help him with this problem, I have a friend who did this and the child is doing great..

My daughter has ADHD and I refuse to let the doctor's medicate her. I've seen to many kids change after being on that for a while. I learned different ways to discipline her and you have to be patient.
