Because they can be ripped out really easily, which causes wounds that will be really difficult to heal.
any wound on a lurcher is tough to heal as they are lacking the chemical in the blood that promotes healing - according to our vet!
We have a lurcher who is recovering from a car accident and the worst thing to treat has been his wounds, they go sceptic and won't heal. We use Aloe Vera it really works!

sometimes dew claws can get caught and rips off, causing open wound and bleeding, that's why some people remove the dew claw from their pups.

It can get torn off very easily and cause all sorts of problems for the dog, so it is best to remove it

Because they dont serve any purpose and they can get ripped off while they are out hunting...i am presuming that your friend hunts with his dogs.

Its quick and easy when they're small pups, and a right hassle when they're adults and get ripped.

So they don't get caught when they're working. They have a tendency to get ripped on brambles etc.
