As the first anniversary is celebrated with paper ( I only discovered there was a modern version about a week ago - confusing isn't it). What about making a scroll listing all the reasons you love her. You know, a list of I Love You Because...
The scroll can be 'aged' by wiping a used wet tea bag across some good quality paper and drying it in a warm oven. Watch it so it doesn't burn or blacken!!! Then you may need to warm iron it flat. When you've written on it, roll it up and tie it with ribbon. She'll realise how much time and effort went into it and if it comes from the heart she'll love you even more for it.

The 1st Wedding Anniversary is "Paper" A beautiful Card, or a Heart felt Poem in one's own words........a Love Letter.....I wrote my Husband a Poem.......he gave me a Beautiful Tin with Stationary for our 1st anniversary. It is supposed to be Paper. You can include another gift with the Paper if you so desire. But Paper is what represents the 1st Wedding anniversary. Most Jewelers have a list of what is represented year by year for every anniversary. Good Luck! Paper, Wood Tin, etc...25 years is Silver,30 or 35 years is Pearl, 50 Years is Golden...it can be a challenge for sure, but the earlier years are less expensive because of the struggle of the young couple, then as they get older they can afford the finer things.....It's quite interesting actually, and goes way back! Happy Anniversary!

Tradition is paper for the first, a nice take I heard on this , though, might seem a bit strange, was a visitors book. So that everyone who calls to your house could maybe sign it, and leave a comment ,poem, or thought, and then in years to come, when you grow old together, you will be able to look at it together and bring back many happy memories. Happy anniversary to you both.

My HB and I always forgo gifts and instead, use that money to celebrate the event. Take her somewhere that she will remember forever. Example: go to a beautiful garden or horticultural center or museum...whatever she is "into". Spend the day together doing things you both love. Enjoy each other and tell her how you feel about her, how you feel about your marriage and your dreams for the future. Have a nice meal and maybe get a couples massage or stay at a nice hotel overnight. It's just my OP, but I'd rather do that then spend money on a pretty piece of jewelry or something.

Either way, congrats on the achievement and I wish you many more happy years!

Paper is tradition.... this could be your wedding invitation framed, a gift certificate for a spa so she can go get pampered (or better yet a couples spa retreat so you can get pampered together, after all it is BOTH of your anniversary), could write her a poem if youre any good at that, you get the idea... :) good luck, she will love it regardless of what you get her because it came from you.

The traditional gift is supposed to be paper based. What are the chances you still have a copy of your wedding invitation? You could find a local artist to embellish it with paint, and have it framed.

Alternately, tickets to something could be fun - in particular if it's the type of thing that she likes, and that you normally wouldn't go to...Ballet, symphony, musical theater, that kind of thing.

A book of love poems could also work.

Tradition is an eternity ring.If you can't afford that, what about a love letter telling your wife how much you have enjoyed your first year together-high lighting all the best bits.
Maybe you could give her both.
12 roses-1 for every month
Another professional photo by your wedding photographer to signify your 1st year.

According to Hallmark's Wedding and Anniversary guide, it should "paper" for traditional gifts, or "Clocks" for a modern gift. But it really depends on the couple. If they are very traditional, surprise them with a traditional gift, and probably no one else will! If they are not traditional, then maybe a generous giftcard for a complete dinner and drinks at their favorite restaurant, etc,.
