Do not worry. Flying is much safer that driving a car or even walking on the streets and that's including flights with hijackers. I was flying just after the London story and I was also a bit worried..
In fact there is an alert now so even if any hijacker will try something, he will be unarmed in seconds, so what I am trying to say, more than even, everyone is safer to fly.
There is also lots of propaganda re the hijackers right now due to the war in Lebanon, so alot of the staff is not even true: it is just to put wool over many people eyes to show that the war in Lebanon had a reason (just as war in Iraq).
Have fun flying.. and enjoy!!

What a bunch of morons answered this question.
I totally sympathize with you. I am flying this Thursday to Florida- it's only about a three hour flight but I'm all stressed out about it it too. People don't understand what it feels like to get on a plane and be convinced it's going to crash. Every bit of turbulence is terrifying. I take Ativan and recently started taking it differently when I fly. I take one the night before I fly at bedtime. A soon as I'm awake, even before I get out of bed I take one and then as soon as boarding starts I take one more. This prevents me from starting to get nervous in the first place.
I know of someone who has panic attacks and takes Ativan for that. She breast feeds and her doctor had no concerns about so personally I'd load up- worse case scenario the baby would be a little tired.

If your baby can feed from a bottle...try to pump enough to last until the ativan would be out of your system. Talk to your OB. Other than that...try to focus on the reason for your vacation. Scotland is a beautiful place, think about all the great things you'll do there when you land. Peace.

Just put your mind somewhere else. If your baby is with you, concentrate on how beautiful that little life is, that you brought into this world. If the baby is not with you, put his or her picture in your mind and imagine it smiling and laughing. I say a lot of prayer when I'm afraid.
Sometimes I have panic attacks and the only way I get through them is a second at a time, so I pray every second and it helps me ease up some.
Just imagine also, that you probably have more of a chance of an accident in a car than being hijacked or having your plane crash.

I totally understand! I was really afraid to fly but I have a job where I have to fly all the time so I had to get over it. I use to take Xanax or have some wine to chill me out but that isnt always an option when you fly in the morning and have to work the rest of the day. So, I just worked on not being afraid and got more and more use to flying. But since you are just going on the one trip, that wont help you. Really, once I began to understand what all the noises were and bumps, it made me feel better. Just think about how much fun you are going to have in Scotland and what you are going to do. Anything to get your mind off of it.

I give my mother Melatonin tablets (over the counter) each evening when she gets panic attacks. She has Alzheimer's and this calms her and allows her to relax and sleep, and it's so much gentler on her than a sleeping pill or prescription drug.
You can also learn some easy meditation and breathing exercises. Try your Lamaze methods for relaxing and breathing.
We only have the moment we are given right now to live in. Nobody can predict the future, though we can plan to make it easier. If you're worried about plane crashes and/or hijacking, remember the terrorists targeted planes coming into the US or domestic flights. And God is in control. Put yourself in His hands and relax.

It's tough these days, but if you are scared you are letting the terrorists and George Bush win! You can't live your life afraid of everything, enjoy life and have a good time. Be safe in your own manner and you will be fine.
Have fun in Scotland, it's a very nice place. People are friendly and the food is awesome (if you like boiled sheep stomach!)

Just concentrate on being up in the around 7 miles above the cold, dark ocean. If the plane does go down - and you are fortunate enough to survive the burning crash - just think of being hundreds of miles in the cold ocean from land - and of the sharks that will be drawn to the crash site because of the blood and burned flesh.
Now, doesn't that make you feel better?
