This term isn't really used now as it was seen by some as derogatory, they are now called developing nations.

The developed western democracies were considered the first world. The communist bloc was the second. Everyone else was third world.

I believe it's because of their state of poverty. Although, I have never heard of second world countries...

Its based on their social and economic status.
Countries that have little or no money.
Countries that do not have a big role in the United Nations.

Third world countries are countries that don't have any infrastructure. They're mostly just wild areas.

its an old out of date term used in the early and mid century, if you notice smart polititians dont really use it, its more the media and pundants
