You have an abcess, you may have caught the skin at the side of your nail and it has become infected. It's very sore Iv'e had several over the years.
You could go and get some antibiotics from your doctor, but I have always taken my dad's advice, take a small piece of bread, boil up some milk, pour some into a saucer and place the bread in it.when it has soaked up some milk put in on your finger for as long as you can.Yes,it sure does hurt, but it will dispurse the abcess, then just put a clean plaster or bandage on it for the night and hopefully it should feel a lot better tomorrow.Be Brave!good luck.

If it is very painfull, and isn't improving, you may have an in-grown nail. My brother had 2 in-grown toe nails (on both big toes), and he was in agony, he couldn't even think of kicking a football, he went to the Dr and he ended up having an operation to rectify the problem!
I would go to the Dr's if there is no sign of improvement and is causing you a lot of pain. Good luck, hope you feel better soon.

immediately soak that finger in quite hot salted water, the salt should draw the pus out; it may take couple of tries, also the skin should become more supple, making it easier to put a bit of pressure on it, then you can squeeze the remainder out, then put peroxide on it and an antibiotic with a bandage----if that doesn't work...see a Dr.

Get magnesium sulphate cream - its soooooo good. Put a blob on the affected area and cover with a dressing. The cream draws out the puss. Only takes about 24 hrs/

Sounds like a Whitlow. Get very hot water and put your finger in it. You will need to squeeze it and get all the pus out. It's painful and not nice but you need to do it. If you can't do it. Get somebody else to do it for you. Grit your teeth.

i had this about a year ago. i nipped along to a chemist (cos i was on holiday but still in the uk) and he gave me some magnesium sulphate. it draws the poison out and it worked a treat!
the only other alternative is antibiotics and being so far from my docs i tried the sulphate first and was lucky.
good luck to you too!
