what he is trying to say is:
if a guy that is really attractive man brings flowers and gives us things and shows up at our door we think it is so he is romantic and spontaneous
but if a unattractiveman gives us things and shows up at our door step we think he is creepy and he is stalking us.
so basically a pretty man and a ugly man can do the same things but because humans judge, there are two outcomes
or humans are vain and we dont judge fairly and we only see the outside of a person not the inside

I would take the stereotypes approach. Is it for a psych class or something? You may want to add that in you details it will help with the quality of the comments. It is a proven stereotype of many that if a person is good-looking they are considered more thoughtful, harder-working, more attentive, goal oriented people. However, if a person is bad looking they could get turned down for jobs, get passed by on a highway when their car is broken down, not taken as seriously, and generally people disrespect them more. It's a horrible fact but is a fact according to social psychological studies done on it. Umm.. also, I think you may want to make your assignment less irrational.. 500 pages?? seriously? Or 500 WORDS? Big diff. Alright.. well, hope this helps you out!

I think he is talking about peoples perception on physical appearance and the role it plays in society. Obviously if someone is good looking and does the things a "stalker" would do, it is looked at a bit differently because of the way they look. If an "ugly" or "unattractive" person does the same as an "attractive" person, they are looked at like a stalker.....

what he means is its how we perceive people purely by looks only. If some one is good looking then we don't see them as a threat if he does the same things as a guy that's ugly. If he is ugly then we prefer to believe he is a stalker. this suits us better to believe this. its all about how we look at people and judge them without really getting to know them. I hope you mean 500 words and not 500 pages lol as we could be here for a few days yet lol. Also have you heard it said that "if a man sleeps with lots of women he is a stud" and yet "if a woman sleeps with lots of men she is a slag", its the one rule for one and another rule for another syndrome. its about preferring to believe something rather than making our conclusions by gathering the correct evidence first,.

well heres what I think in life we always go by how people are just by there looks your professor is saying if show up to a ladies door with roses and I am good looking then I am a thoughtful person because of my looks or presence. Now If I am un attractive and I show up then I am a stalker becuz women generally judge people on how they are without knowing them on there looks.

I don't believe you.
I don't believe you don't understand the meaning of the statement.
I don't believe your professor assigned you a 500 page opinion paper to write on the statement.
I could believe a 500 word paper in a philosophy type of class might be assigned. I have a hard time believing that a prof, given our currently social environment, would even make such a statement in public, unless it is a philosophy or rhetoric class.

If good looking is to being thoughtful, than ugly is to be a stalker.Than he's saying than in his opion good looking people can basically get away with more things than an ugly person can.For example If an random ugly person walks up to you and sits down at your table..without asking more than likely you will leave or think it's strange. But if a good looking person who is attractive comes to your table and sits down with out asking you will more than likely smile and strike up a conversation.

That's funny. what he means is that in the minds of those in the watched/stalked position, the looks of this person affect what they think. if the stalker is attractive, then the female stalkee doesn't mind as badly, justifying it as thoughtfulness. if not, they call the police. by the way, email me when the 600 page "essay" comes to print...send me an autographed copy.

Think of sitcoms where someone pursues a girl for weeks and it's "cute" when in real life they would be arrested for harrassment. If he's handsome, he's persistent, if he's ugly, he's harassing her. Think about her reaction to each kind of guy hitting on her for weeks.

It is an over-generalization.
The assumption is ugly people do ugly things.
Look at Ted Bundy: suave, sophisticated and psychotic
