The guy I'm dating collects Elmo dolls (owns like 40) and they are NOT bought for him. He buys them. Oh, and he's 35.

First of all there is nothing wrong with a man collecting things. If he likes these elmos why don't you find out why, there is a reason I am sure. Maybe you could even buy him one if you understand it just to show him that it doesn't bother you, unless it does in which case maybe you should evaluate your own habits and quirks.

I wouldn't base my concern solely on one thing like that; I use sort of a "three strikes you're out" policy-- for instance, if he was talking to the Elmo dolls or, you know, being intimate with them then I would kick him to the curb.
But lots of people collect stuff, that's not so bizarre. Maybe ask him how he got started collecting Elmos and see what he says...?

They could be collectible and worth tons of money some day. Are they all the same? I have no clue what an elmo doll looks like beside soemthing out of seseme street. Do some google research on them. If they aren't anything special and they all look alike then perhaps he might just be weird and then you should avoid him.

There is nothing wrong with collecting anything. Be it baseball cards, purses or Elmo dolls. Be concerned if he is into other weird things.

If he has a full sized Elmo costume and wants to have sex with it on then you need to be concerned but otherwise its a collector thing.
