A big smile, and being you self would be a great way to start the evening. Guide books about the country (like the girl above said) would also be great. That way they can learn about where you come from.
I think that maybe a nice dinner or even a picnic would be a close entameint way to get to know them. I wouldn't stress about what you are going to get them.... i would just relax and try and take things as they come. Be open to new things and be willing to have a time together. A small little thoughtful gift is always nice.

Well, as you meet him for first time, it is complicated. It depends whether you have talked to him already or you don't kno him at all. If i is purely arranged marriage then you could maybe ask your parents what he is doing and what he would like. Don't go for something expensive, just go for some small thing. Maybe something he could carry around with him that you did for him yourself. I will meet my hubby first time as well within 15 days and I am pretty nervous as wel. I have made a CD for him with all our favourite songs. I will gift that to him when he visits. Anything will be nice, as long as it is givn with good intention.
Do not give yourself to him before wedding night however, this is not something to be given like this, it should be meaningful.
Best of Luck, write to me in case you want to ask something more

something he/she will remember you by forever. A ring. A token of love like a something you use/wear or made for him/her. Dont buy hardware like phones/clocks/pens/gifts/cards. Guys in particular like to their own hardware shopping and women prefer roses to hardware.
The promise of something special on wedding night is the most important gift, so dont give it away right now.

How about something from your country? Maybe a guidebook, or a guide to local customs, or dialect/language. Also a guide to the laws of your country. And just give him a big smile and be friendly, he's probably as nervous as you! Good Luck and hope it goes well for you.

I cringewhen I read questions written like this. If your friend is coming from another country and can't speak English, I hope to God that you will not teach him to write in this pseudo-text-message-language.
Get him a t-shirt.

Give him something simple...that he can use all the time and can think of you.....may be a wristwatch or wallet. But I would preffer the first one......
another advice be yourself, respect others' (atleast your partner's) feelings and be loyal. Thease will make you happy forever...

Better not to assume that the one from abroad is going to be prince charming. May be someone next door is much better.
