First of all I drive a 2000 Celica GT Automatic, it has about 76,000 miles on it. When I start my car, it revs up to 2 k and stays there and it'll take about 5 minutes for it to sit there and eventually go to 1 k . Why does it do that? How can I fix it? Oh yeah, and sometimes when I'm at a red light it revs a little and kinda makes a noise in the front end of my car and it seems as if it shakes a little but it's only sometimes. I always keep up with my oil changes and I just put in new spark plugs this past summer. Please help! Thanks!

Have you had the throttle body cleaned, intake cleaned... ect... oil changes and spark plugs will not keep the car maintained... The rev-ing sounds like it might have something to do with the computer in the car... The best bet... go to a dealership, talk to a mechanic (without going through the customer service lobby) and see if you can get one of them to do side work (i.e. get the scan tool and scan the car for problems). they will charge you around 20-50$ (but cheeper than the 89$ for one hour of diagnosis). Then you can get someone to fix it after hours... This is the way that they make their money (because they only get about 15$ of that 89$ for labor charges... and they will do anything to make 30$ an hour after hours....

The cold start sensor is failing. Have it tested and replaced if it is out of specs. IT is a pretty common problem with the Celica after a few miles. It gives the computer the info it needs to control mixture and rpm at start while the engine warms up.

its normal for the engine to rev in the morning or when you start, the computer dictates that, the new cars with fule injections has all these functions so its normal. the computer always monitors and adjust the idling of the car.
for example when you turn on the aircon the engine revs a bit more to adjust itself for the aircon and etc.
maybe the sensors might not be working properly so you might need to check those since modern cars are controlled by computer chip in the car

once you have started the car drive it, no need to just sit there and warm it up, its just a waste of gas and car warms up better once it gets going

when you first start the car its supposed to have that high rev. the O2 sensor tells the computer the eng is cold and makes it go to a higher rpm until it start to get worm so it doesn't stall when you first start it cold. for your other problem I'm not sure what that could be so you should take it in to a shop and get it looked out before it gets worse.

it sounds like you probably have a vacuum leak. If you do the engine sensors tells the computer that you are recieving too much air in the fuel delivery system so the computer will compensate by dumping more fuel in the system, thus making it rev higher then it should.

It is normal, No need to worry If the RPM became normal after one minute.
Thermal sensor is working,
If the sensor failed the RPM will not be normal after some time

Check and replace the Air Filter if necessary

Sounds like you have a bad temp sensor or idle valve. Have it checked at a shop that does a lot of Toyota work, so they know how to check them.

i would agree with the cold start sensor comment. they are somewhat costly sadly.
