Whats the point of wasting time ?. If god was not just a fable character, wouldnt she have been more satisfied with people actually helping other people rather than being selfish for their own (after death) aims ?.

If any such entity actually exists, he obviously wants humans to be atheists.

When people claim they are worshiping God, they are really worshiping other men. And, if their God is the sadist they claim him to be, they are going to be in serious trouble when they have to explain why they worshiped other men & their words.

Someone who does not play golf might see golf as a waste of time ,or any other human activity that holds no interest for them . Time passes we fill it , we cannot hold it ,capture it , just fill it with some practical or mental task . Worship is turning ones mind to the spiritual side of life , facing up to the fundamental questions of our existence . For some this takes the form of adoration of the creator , how the creator might respond to this attention is open to question .
Hands that work might do more good than hands that pray but when prayer precedes helping people it has (if you believe in the power of prayer ) a double effect for good . If (a ) God had ever been proved to exist , Then maybe the acknowledgement by his creatures of His work would not be met by disinterest surely . Would he have took the trouble to make us just to forget , or show no interest in his handywork ? Ironically it is not selfishness but selflessness which might lead some people to consider their own ( after death ) aims . Or considering them may lead to a life lived selflessly . ( Not including the nutters that give all religions a bad name but rather the silent majority who take the flak from you and others when you should be aiming the brickbats at them .) A quick glance at the number of christian charities ( and other faiths too ) might persuade you to reappraise your view that these organisations are not involved in helping other people . But it's so hard to face the truth isn't it . Try .

At its best, I think, worship is merging your energies and gifts with those of others in order to praise the Creator. (I'm trying to say this in an interfaith way.) You are no longer selfish, or even yourself, for those few minutes or hours. You are one of many, a small cog in something bigger, and you are praising something bigger yet. It's a beautiful thing.

Would a Creator appreciate it? I don't know--do you appreciate being praised? How about that little lift you get when you get those ten points for best answer, or a complement when you've done something right? I think the Creator has done many things *very* right, and therefore that's worthy of taking time out to say "Thank you."

Is it a waste of time? No more so than YA or your favorite TV show. No more than a "nice job" or thank-you card or pat on the back to another human being. Praising the Divine and doing good things for other humans are not mutually exclusive propositions, seriously.

The christian bible states that Jesus did not want churches. To contradict christian beliefs... if your god is all around you then why do you need to go to some building to worship him?? Isn't it obvious that you could just be talking to him while you watch tv or cook dinner.

It is a waste of time, and these days churches seem to be more about being seen to be going to church rather than actual spirituality. Some, in Ireland anyway, have issues with christening a baby if the parents have not been seen at church.

Your god is all around you... quit wasting time and do something useful while you speak to him.

You are assuming, I take it that the God in question is a 'good' God, because in the past people have worshipped all types of Gods, good, bad or indifferent. Personally, I believe a good God would not require or demand worship but may well appreciate a bit of thanks now and again instead of the constant whining and moaning that many so called prayers nowadays consist of. A God worthy of worship should demand nothing of us but then how could we demand (pray for) anything in return? A sticky question. To answer your question, of course God would prefer people to actually help each other rather than pestering him/her to do it for them, or making empty promises without delivering anything but empty words.........and I think his/her motto may perhaps be...'actions speak louder than words!'
Which God is it you believe to be just a fable ? Or is it all of them? Hmmm! You raise some interesting questions!

God commands worship not because he/she/it has a big false ego that likes to be worshipped. God commands worship because it is good for us. Creation falls under the same reason. We are not created by God to worship God but worship is good for us and takes us toward the Goal of the Life: to be(come) Divine as God is Divine.

Mat 5:48 Be therefore perfect...

Btw helping others in need is also worship.

We are not just creatures, we are Gods children, and as in human parent-child relationship, both sides need to communicate, give and take, have a contact. Worshipping is not it's quality time spent with God, and it's not just to show Him that we believe in Him, it's actually our benefit.

Atheists seem to feel that worship is a waste of time unless God is proven to exist.

This god creature seems to be so vain and vindictive that if you do not stroke it's ego by worshiping it in a highly proscribed manner, it tortures you for eternity in everlasting fire. Now that sounds like a highly disturbed creature that is hardly worthy of worship or respect.

How is a good christian life a waste of time? If someone faithfully follows the bible's message its beneficial to themselves and to others. No violence, adultery, lying, etc etc. How is that selfish?
