It is very difficult to describe a religion in a site like this but I will answer you by saying that it is a religion like any other, which has a founder, called Muhammad (just like the christians believe in Jesus, muslims believe in a human being who came to earth with a message from God. Muslims believe Muhammad was a prophet, christians believe Jesus is God but basically it is the same thing, a human being who came with a message from God. The contribution of Muslims to civilization is great. You have to thank them for Algebra, medicine, astronomy, universities etc etc. Unfortunately nowadays it seems like we are talking about some other religion because the spirit that Muhammad brought has been covered by manmade theories and doctrines and the beauty of the teachings of Muhammad have been totally covered by the misinterpretation by the clergy. I dont think Muhammad taught to kill yourself and others by putting a bomb in your body but this is what people today are taught and they stupidly believe it..... so what you see today is not that Islam that bought so much good for us humans but a religion that is detrimental to society.

Islam is not only a universal religion but it's also a way of life. As a religion, Islam says there is only ONE god and Muhammad (PBUH) is his last prophet. Islam offers a workable and logical system of life. It provides guidance and a sensible relationship b/w the creator, the universe, and the human being. It also provides Guidance to establish a political, social, moral and economic environment (where one can grow to his or her full potential) for all mankind and thereby solving all the problems of humanity.

Islam is belief in one God with no equal and no partner. God begot none nor was begotten. Islam is total submission to God and peace. Do not mistake the actions of some who do acts for the sake of Islam that go against peace. Just as Christians cannot be understood by the KKK or skinheads who act under the guise of Christianity.

Submission to ALLAH (God) the Only God and The Most Merciful. Through this submission, humans liberate themselves from worshiping any other creations or selfish desires, because they direct their will to ALLAH's will.
At that point, internal and external peace will be achieved.
