I want to talk to the people like the ones who throw their lunch bags untouched in the garbage at my university. Why don't you offer it to someone else. Not every student is born with the silver spoon in their mouths like you people.

A friend asked me this same question today, she is from Africa and can't understand the amount of food wasted in this country its disgraceful you should always do you best to help other people and if that means giving your lunch to some impoverished student rather than throwing it in the bin then so be it

1. People who waste food like that don't know what it's like to go without.
2. It can be rather delicate to just go an offer people your lunch bag.
3. Tonx has a good idea even though I don't really like the attitude he's showing. Set up a booth where people can come and pick up untouched lunches.
4. Why look down on people who bring their lunch to the university? What kind of a world is this anyway?

if someone brown bags a lunch to a university, it shows they were not born with a silver spoon in their mouths. People who have always had financial wealth are oblivious to the mere concept of brown bag lunches.

How do you know who threw it away? The person that brought the lunch may have left it on a cafeteria table for someone else - if they weren't hungry or had already had their fill or if someone else bought them a lunch - but was then discarded by an employee making room for others in the cafeteria.

If someone brought their lunch and thought it smelled odd or looked odd, would you suggest they hand it to someone less fortunate than themselves?

Looks can be deceiving. The fact is that you don't know who put it in the trash - nor why.

gross...i dont care how hungry i would never eat someone elses food.. go buy a 50 cent yogurt! where on earth do u go to college that people bring brown bagged lunches anyway? besides i think MOST people would be offended if i tried to give my uneatten sandwich away to them.,,,i know i would be. in high school i made bags with pb&j sandwiches and a juice box in them and gave it to homeless people as part of my senior service. some of them would get PISSED....and they were homeless.
thank you

Uhhh -- people bring lunch bags to your university? What university is that? South Pooringston?

Having a 3 dollar lunch bag and not eating it is - while wasteful - not a big deal and by no means indication of a silver spoon situation.

So they don't want to take the time to find someone to give bags to -- how about instead of you accusing them, you make your own special booth/area/something to take in untouched food and redistribute it out. You could use it right there on campus or even take it out to a charity or directly to homeless people.

People don't want to spend an extra 30 minutes a day lookin for someone to give their extra food to, people are busy. If you make it not a huge hassel and give them some awareness then they'll consider it, and you'll achieve results.

The only person on campus that would want my lunch, is the hobo by the bus stop. I guess I could give it to him, but in regards to the other students on campus. . . I don't think they will want my lunch, even the ones without the silver spoon in their mouth.

I don't know sweetie I feel the same way. I eat all my food. People are selfish and act like it's so hard to ask someone if they want leftovers or someone is to stubborn to take a handout.

I agree with you. Some people consider it is OK to throw it out instead of handing it out.

In this day and age, how many people do you know who would accept food from a stranger?
