Do they die?

Question

Do the IgMs in breast milk die once a mother expresses the milk and keeps it to feed her baby at a convenient time?

We were debating this today and never came to an agreement. I then checked on Google and found nothing ...maybe I was not using the correct key-woards

after a while yes - supposedly after about an hour or two if left at ambient temperature

extremem cold and heat will kill them off also. best bet is to refridgerate - not freeze and definitely not microwave

if the breast milk sits outside on a counter or something, it will go bad after about 15 minutes, if it's in the fridge than no more than a couple of days, and if it is kept in the freezer no longer than a month. I'd suggest to talk with the babies dr. to find out for sure how long it can be kept for. I think this is what my dr. told me.

MissyHardt is correct but you also need to store breastmilk in plastic containers, not in glass ones which can destroy igms (the fats "attach" themselves to the glass)

As long as you keep it cold until use (2 days refridgerated or 2 months frozen) and heat it slowly, NOT in a microwave, then all the essential nutrients, vitamins, etc. are okay.

No breast milk is breast milk and contains just what it does when breast fed or when expressed

Try looking on Babycenter.com. I don't know if they have that answer but it is an awesome sight to usually find out anything you need.
