He might need a higher calorie dog food, or better quality...Otherwise, it could be thyroid problem, or needing to be de-wormed..

these dog foods will have the most nutrition packed in each serving..some of them also come in canned, but if he will eat kibble, it is best for teeth and gum health..
Canidae, Innova, Solid Gold, Wellness, Wysong, Natural Balance are all made with human grade ingredients, and are so much healthier than ANY dog food found at the grocery store..Most local pet supply shops will have these brands..

I would take him to the vet to rule out worms or some other medical reason first. He could have a very high metabolism and is just burning the food very quickly. My brother has a Boston Terrier which is difficult to keep weight on but he is extremely hyperactive.

a chihuahua? If so they are little dogs. Just as long as his ribs are not hanging out. If they are he might have wormes. Take him to the vet

Ask a vet. He might have tapeworm or an overactive thyroid or something else. He might need meds and more food. Get him examined. The doctor might say he's fine!
