He would not be Tarzan, handsome, manly and virile with a beard...he'd be caveman...hairly and brutal, dragging Jane by the hair and what not.
It wouldn't make do for the romantic adventure....

Because as magic as Hollywood is, there's always some assshole who picks apart everything, and then feels the need to bring it to the attention of everyone else, as if it is his civic duty.
He didn't have a beard because he was one of the first TV sex symbols in history. Beards just dont cut it.
