Watchdog has just announced many complaints about GHD straighteners blowing up (while people were using them and also when they were unattended). It sounds quite bad and I doubt I will be using mine again. Is there another alternative brand that uses similar technology?(One that is just as good. I have thick hair.) Also, how harsh would a straightening treatment (the chemical treatment) be on one's hair and how often would it have to be kept up? I kind of feel like I am over reacting but then again, I'd rather over react than to suffer the consequences when I was warned something has a good possibility of happening.

I highly recommend Conair Infiniti Professional Straightening Iron (ceramic plates) costs about $50.00 I have really thick naturally curly hair and this iron can heat up to 396 degrees.Plus my hair has never been straighter and it reduces the thickness . Very sleek and has a different light next to each degree to let you know where you have set the temp at. Instead of an annoying dial that most have. It also enhances the shine of your hair which I will back that up because my hair can be somewhat dry and frizzy and this eliminates all of that. It also comes with its own velvet suede carrying pouch. Also you should consult your salon stylist about a chemical hair treatment to straighten your hair. They could recommend what is right for your type of hair and how often you need it done. good luck

certain you ought to no matter if it really is a GHD straighteners or yet another sorts. when you consider that your hair will be extremely damaged once you've dyed your hair besides. What i recommend is once you've black hair then it could be a lot less damaged. placed your warmth protection each and every time earlier blow drying the hair or earlier straightening it. i'm no longer gonna say which products to apply because it might recommend im promoting it. so that you ought to purchase one it really is roofed your budgets. wish this helps. good success!

GHDs are definitely the best. I think the main problem with them blowing up with the connection at the end. They have now made this swivel round and so there have been fewer problems. Had mine for two years without any bother at all - all my friends have them as well and we use them on a daily basis.

I've got the Remington Wet 2 Straight - and i think they're great. If i use them on wet hair, it stays straight for a couple of days, til it needs washing again - honest!!

When i use the ghd's, i have to straighten it every day.

I have used Babyliss steam straightners ( they also have ceramic plates) before instead of my ghd's and to be honest i thought the babyliss one's were great. I also have thick wavy long hair, the babyliss ones were the only other straightners to touch it, i have tried the glass ones and the gold.

I have very thick, curly hair. I use a Chi.
I put a chemical relaxer on my hair every 8 weeks. I add to new growth only.

The Chi by Farouk is a really good one. You can buy it at JC Penny's or a salon. It costs about $120 but its worth it. It makes your hair feel really soft.

Hi for years i have use kodo, they arnt as good as GHD as they damage your hair but yes they are as just as good. But i know GHD are ment to blow up but this is why i bought my kodo ones 4 years ago, so they have been know to do this for years. But i boguht some any ways and so far so good, touch wood. But kodo are really cheap and are just as hot they just dont lock in as much moisture so us a really good heat protection spray. But there is no reason not to use your GHDs as if they do blow up then obviously complian to GHD if they do. as you have payed loads of money for them but i suppose to be on the safe side.
