Does he not have to look at the continuous harmony of all the heavenly bodies in the universe?
The one and only duty of each living being is self preservation. To that end the worship of a god is self preservation. One can only be in harmony with nature when he works for self preservation. There are universal laws governing each of thing as we are part of the universe as matter and thus inseperable.
Do you know in the vedas the supreme being is refered to as the "Brahman" which also means the universe. Thus worship and aspects of hinduism are to live in harmony with the laws of nature. Nowhere does it say that this should not be done and this should be done. It says laws of karma govern and affect your actions. To give an example anger against others is said to burn you up inside and contrary to self preservation thus to be avoided best.
Please read about hinduism to know about all this and a concept of god like that.

I agree with you. It is in your best interests to do good and obey all the laws. People that hate and do evil are just hurting themselves.

God is clear in His Word ( the Bible) that he hates sin. And because He is a Holy God He can not even look on it. But He loves man and so because He does He sent His only Son Jesus to die for us and take all of our sins, even though, He had no sin. When Jesus took on our sin, He was hanging on the cross and said these words "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?" At that point, God could not look on the sin. That is how serious God is about sin.
Good deeds are a reflection of Jesus in a believers life. Doing good deeds will not get you into heaven. Only acceptance of what Jesus did, because we could not make restitution for our sin, will save us. God put the laws in place not only to teach us right from wrong but to also prove to man that because of the sin in our lives that we are unable to keep it and needed a Saviour.
Self preservation is man's thinking. God's ways are not our ways or His thoughts our thoughts. God knows when we will be born and when we die and all our self preservation won't change that date.
Worship can only be given by those who are truly His. Those who worship in spirit and truth. God is a Spirit (not like a ghost but the nature and character of Him) and those who worship Him must do so in the same manner...In spirit and truth. We can not worship God in our own power. We can only do so if we have accepted the one who died for us.
Being one with the universe will not save you. You have a choice to make. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth the life. No man comes to the Father (GOD) accept by me. I hope you choose rightly.

God is God independently of what we think or understand of Him. We have a limited vision, a limited mind so we understand something of that Ilimited being called God. Those laws that govern us were put by a very smart being, all the perfect and syncronized world we have was design by that supreme being which we obviosly can not understand. The purpose of religion is to help us understand those spiritual laws that govern our souls so we dont keep on hurting ourselves by braking those laws. Just as the law of gravity was put in the world by that Creator, there are laws that govern our souls and what you say about anger affecting us is true because when we are angry we are braking a spiritual law and therefore we are hurting ourselves, psicologicaly, mentally and spiritually.
Being aware of those laws and trying to avoid braking them has given me happiness and tranquility in this life so I know that those teachings preached in the Holy books of every religion are there to protect us if we only knew and accepted the fact that we are limited by laws everywhere, in the physical and the spiritual realm.

Ask 100 people what's they're interpretation of GOD (as they understand Him)... you'll get 100 different answers. Our own relationship with a power greater than ourselves is a very unique and personal thing. Acceptance and respect for others is something we should all strive to attain.

I don't believe in God, not because I'm against religions, but because I don't yet understand myself, and to me, believing in God is a commitment that I am not ready to make yet. I want to figure myself out, I want to feel comfortable in my own skin and accept God when and where I am ready too.

I do not believe that God is a 'someone'. I believe that he is a force associated with all things both living and dead and all that are in between.
