The unfortunate truth is that just going to church doesn't make you a good person. He could have set up camp at the alter and still would have been a bad person.
You have to accept the faith into your life and live by it's teachings. Unless the church that he was attending promoted the death of children, I would say no amount of ' church ' would have done him any good.

Going to Church every Sunday does not make you a Christian any more that going to a bar every Saturday makes you a bar stool.

He may have just been going through the motions and not really had God in his heart.Christians are not removed from making mistakes or doing wrong. He is in hell!!

Never read that anywhere.
It did say he was a self-confessed molester.
It did say he was possibly mad at God for the death of a child.
