Mr E is right.
You will be able to get a bigger plasma screen than you can get a CRT but a good quality CRT will be much better than a good quality plasma.
It should also be a lot cheaper, and with 50 years of know how behind it, last for years longer than the plasma.

No. Both Plasma and LCD are new technology and their reliability unproven. Also you have to consider the viewing angles, straight on the images are good but as you move from side to side the quality decreases, not a problem with CRT! and the final clincher is the price, a CRT compared to either LCD or a Plasma of comparable size is much cheaper.

Until April of this year I worked for Comet. You won't get a better picture unless it's HDTV and since hardly anybody is broadcasting that it's unlikely you'll benefit. BE AWARE.....expected lives for LCD are 8000 hours, it might last four years if you watch it a lot. Plasma lives can be as short as three months if you don't look after them properly. Cathode ray still gives the best value for money and the picture is as good, in some cases better.CRT should last about 10 years if you look after them although I've got a working 14 incher that was bought in 1985.

One thing to consider is the life of a plasma screen. I have had several friends with plasma tv's blow "the main engine/power unit" (whatever that is - but it is what makes the tv work) and replacing it was more expensive than buying a new one. Check the repair cost and life span of the units you wish to compare over the image quality (unless money is no object ;) )
