I would choose English, simply because this is the most prominent language in the whole world. It is fairly close to French and German, but English is still the most prominent language in the world, and thus if a universal language were to be spoken, it would spread quicker to be English.

I don't agree with having a universal language though. Sure, everyone would understand everyone, but do you really want to take part of a country's culture away?

I don't think we are going to have much choice. Esperanto didn't catch on, so it will probably be English, which is one of the hardest to learn.

More people in the world speak Mandarin, but English is the official language of the greatest number of countries. These are the two top languages in the world.

Spanish.
This is not my first language, or second or third, but it is one in which I'm relatively fluent. It is easy. The grammar follows certain rules that hardly change at all so there is no need to learn a lot of exceptions to rules or vocabulary that is used to explain a verbs use, such as is the case in English, my first language.

I think humanity has chosen already English. I am not an English native and had to learn it because everywhere I go, people speak English, so I dont think it is a matter of chosing, it has been chosen already.

A sort of super-English with thousands of new words from all the other languages that would otherwise die out and the subtleties expressed in them die with them.
