If you're a teenager, do your parents make sure you have proper dental care?

I'm 55 and I didn't. I don't remember even being told to brush my teeth. Whenever I had a cavity my parents told me to get it pulled instead of filled because when I got older I would have dentures anyway. I got my first pair of dentures when I was 17. I hate my parents till today for doing that to me.

My mom was somewhat good about taking me to the dentist when I was younger. It's very important for kids to start going to the dentist early. Sometimes I see little kids come in as soon as 2 years old. Theres not much to do on a two year old, but it helps them get used to the dentist so they aren't scared in the future. Then when you get older you realize how important it is. Most people that don't go regularly get nervous and have more problems in the end. A lot of that has to do with lack of education for the dental field, and things that can happen if you don't practice good oral hygiene. It's good to do some studing....If you seen HALF of the things I do on a daily basis and educate yourself...You wil have no worries about going to the dentist for your routine check ups! Good Luck!

I had great dental care as a child, thanks to my parents ensuring we brushed our teeth and to the National Health Service. I live in the UK where dental treatment for under sixteens is free and, until I was fourteen, kids had dental check-ups every three months (thanks to the useless Tories, this was changed to every six months) with polishing and scaling. I'm was only one of few kids in my primary class who didn't have any fillings and now aged 25, I still don't have any fillings. I did have teeth that were all over the place, which were fixed with orthadontic care that was also provided free of charge.

I'm not a teenager, but I did not have dental care at all as a child, and i can tell you that good teeth is hereditary...I'm 48 years old and I have all my teeth...now I go to the dentist every 6 months ....my son also has a good teeth, he is 28

I'm not a teenager anymore, but not too long ago i was, and yes i had proper dental care because my parent's didn't give me the choice of screwing it up

Yep. My dad was adamant on taking me to the dentist every six months for cleaning and I had a couple fillings when I was a child, but nothing more major than that. I'm actually glad that my dad made me go, I take pride in my nice smile. : )

Why can no longer he watch once you're brushing and flossing? Then he can 'replica' you, and you will 'replica' him... and make beneficial he's making use of a toothpaste that he truthfully likes, or you would be defeating the purpose. you could additionally ask the hygienist to teach him appropriate OHI (oral hygiene training) at his next dental checkup... that could inspire him besides. suited of success! :)

my mom took me to the dentist at least once a year when i was little. now im 16 and i make sure my teeth are as clean possible. i force my mom to make dentist appointments every 6 months so i can get them clean. i havent had a cavity since i was 12.
