Bacterium can be killed with lye soap. But it would be inconclusive as far as being a successful means. Salt does not kill bacteria. However, it will keep it safe until it is unleashed into the atmosphere within biological material.

e. coli is a bacteria, not a virus. BIG difference in killing them.
Produce can be cleaned of e. coli by washing thoroughly with water (lots of it). If practical (say on an apple or melon), add soap and scrub. Even if the produce was supposedly washed by the shipper.

no you could do as well if you used corn meal. you might kill it if you washed it with bleach undiluted.
