Have had a fiance and a husband. The fiance was a great guy, we just grew apart. The husband was a jerk, abusive, unfaithful, mean, stuck me with a huge amount of debt. Never really dated anyone else. I'm really lonely and would like to start dating. How do I know if I'm ready?

Well, you just said, "I'm lonely and would like to start dating". That's means you're ready to start dating. Now if you're not sure if you want a boyfriend or something else, that's a different question.
I'm in pretty much the same boat as you. I've had girlfriends and a really bad marriage. I've been enjoying my single life for the last 10 years and am having thoughts of spending time with someone else. But everytime I think about the hassle of putting up with someone else and the drama, I change my mind.
Maybe some of us are just better off alone. I think I am, anyway.
So maybe I'll just find a friend to hang out with every now and then and not strap myself with a full-blown committed relationship...ya know?

Just remember that it's just a date. It's just a meal. Dinner. A movie. It's not a relationship. If you have fun on the date, do it again. If not, then don't.
You'll know when you're ready. I have my first date (that I was set up for, and not that thrilled about) since breaking up with my ex around Christmas on Friday. You just know.

just go out and explore dont be miserable life is too short to stress over things you cant change trust me I know. There are better men out there that you cant just date till you are ready to open your heart again good luck
