0-20lbs. Rear-facing carseat.
20-40lbs. Forward-facing carseat.
40+ lbs. Booster.

I have three children and they were all in forward facing carseats when they were 6mos old and weighed 18-20 lbs.

Do you feel she is advanced enough to be? Legally 20-lbs is fine. Everyone here keeps saying not before 1-year because of head control issues. BUT my daughter was big at 6-months too and there was actually never a time when she did not have motor control. She was lifting her head perfectly by herself at a week old. I never had to hold it up for her ever. So, consider if your daughter is advanced enough that you are comfortable having her this way.

I think people today freak out too much. We never had car seats as kids and my sister & I usually rode in the back of an open pickup truck from age 3 on and we're still alive. It's the same as front seat or back seat, back seat Might (there are studies that show being in the back seat can cause damage when the front seats detach and crush the car seat in an accident) be safer than front seat but not having an accident is safest of all. Back seat safer only matters if I am in an accident, and her being in the back seat crying and demanding attention where I can't reach her increases the chances of my having an accident by 75%. So, my daughter has always been in the front seat.

When they are 12 months old.

When they reach about 20 lbs they must stop using the infant seat/carrier and go into a rear facing convertible seat which goes up to 40 lbs approx.

At 12 months turn the seat so it faces foward.

I live in California and I think its 1 year and 20 pounds. Well I changed my daughter over at 7 months cause she was 22 pounds at 6 months and she was 28 inches long. Her feet were getting squished facing back. Even now she'll be 8 months on monday and her feet are already hanging over the big seat.

At 6 months old your daughter still needs to be rear facing. your next car seat purchase should be a convertable car seat. This will continue to hold your daughter rear facing until she is of 1year of age. At that point you can adjust the seat to sit forward facing. Until the age of 1 a childs neck muscles are still very weak especailly if you are involved in a motor vehicle accident.

Go to your local Babies R Us and speak with the associates there. You can find a seat that will best suit you and your daughters needs.

1 year AND 20 lbs. Not before!! THeir little necks are just not strong enough before that. I personally would keep them rear facing as long as possible. I would rahter have a broken leg in a car accident than a broken neck but that's JMO. Not before 1 yr though no matter how much they weigh. THe person who said 4 & 40 must've read the question wrong, that's for a booster seat.

She needs to be at least a year old AND 20 lbs. It's better to leave them rear facing until they outgrow the weight requirements on the convertable seat. That can be up to 35 lbs on some seats.

At the VERY LEAST she should be BOTH 1 year old AND 20 lbs.

Ohh Ohh I know this one! My husband is an automotive safety engineer. Children larger than 20 lbs and older than 1 year can ride facing forward in a child safety seat.

truly... rear dealing with is truly THAT a lot safer. Its worth attempting to decide. 1st, i'm guessing he's in an toddler bucket? If he's, you want to flow him out of it ASAP. There are convertible carseats in the united kingdom that may rear face previous the seat you've. those seats will turn ahead dealing with once you've maxed out the rear dealing with limits. once you've a combi convertible (is it the zeus?) - i'd seem into paying for yet another convertible carseat that has a more suitable max weight. Britax definetly does, i believe Graco does as well.

Too young. I waited until my son was 12 months old to turn his car seat forward. But thats what the box said when I got the carseat.

Depend on the car seat you buy. It will tell you at what height and weight the child can use that specific forward facing car seat. i know my daughter began using one around 9 months, i don't remember precisely.
