The beautiful thing about FPGAs is that you can make them do almost anything. My favorite happens to be video. I don't know how complex your project needs to be, but you could always make a simple test pattern generator with a DVI output. Then you could use it to test LCDs for dead pixels. This might be too simple, but it would be super cheap to build (>$100 US). Just about anything that interests you can be done in a FPGA. Build a calculator, tip calculator, a midi music synthesizer, or even a simple function generator. After you get an idea, if you need some help, I'd be more than happy to give you suggestions on how to proceed. Just e-mail me through my Yahoo profile.

What are you interested in? That would be my first question to try and find a topic.

Also, why are you using a FPGA? Is it your choice or are you being told to use one? In either case do you know what a FPGA is? That should tell you that you have some kind of hardware design to do.

I'm not sure what you mean by "what topic i can study in" because you're doing a project?

Off the top of my head you could implement a few things.
1. simple instruction set 8-bit RISC processor
2. traffic light controller.
3. any DSP application.

I don't know your skill level and the course project desired difficulty. I would pick something that is interesting to you.
