Tell him how you feel. Worst case scenario....he will tell you to never talk to him again. On the other hand....he may feel the same way...you never really know. Talk to him.....he might just understand.

In my mind, friends with benefits, equals sex. You want to continue having sex with your boyfriend, you just don't want him to be your boyfriend- is that right? That would be really unfair if his heart is tied into you. How can being his girlfriend be so stressful that you don't want to be in a relationship with him? Does he expect you call him every other minute? Does he dominate your time? If he causes stress, why would you be with him in any type of way? If he doesn't cause stress, why would you want to discontinue the relationship as it is? Sounds like you want to have your cake and eat it too.
If it just boils down to the sex, realize that you won't get the good stuff simply being his friend. Girlfriends you try to please. Friends, you use to get your thing off- provided it's mutually understood. You're wrong to want to keep him on your terms. You said that your fear was in telling him, it would make him want to end the relationship period. It sounds like you guys should part ways and cut your losses anyway. You don't seem to have any love in your heart for him anyway.

Tell him you have a lot on your plate this semester with school, so you're going to need to cut back the amount of time you spend together. Then you can just see him when you want.
Another approach is to say nothing, and just tell him you're studying when he calls. You can naturally just decrease the time you spend without "breaking up."

PLEASE READ
A stressfull relationship is not a happy 1. Tell him your mind. If he leaves u, Cry in secret. If he really wants u, he'll come and ask that u come back together as before and he'll make the relationship stressfree. If u dont tell him your mind, u will continue 2 suffer. Be strong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sweet this is a case of you can't have your cake and eat it to. Also it is not very nice using your boyfriend until some thing or someone better comes along. Try to look at it through his eyes. and you will see the betrayal

A clean break is always best.........you could promise to get together with him again after college, but what if you meet someone else - then you'll upset him even more.

simple, find a part time job or take more class, that way your time will be on work or homework. so he will know that you are busy and does not have that much time to go out beside sex. so you can keep him as your bf until you get out of college and can decide if you want him or not then.

A friend with benefits is an awful thing to do to someone because someone always likes the other more. Forget it, move on, and let him go it’s the best thing to do.

You cant really break up with someone without breaking their heart. And you really cant do that if they love you! Just bring him down easy... Dont make it sound like its his fault... Tell him you need you time and space.
