Strong and independent, as long as this does not translate into feminism and liberalism.

That depends on how confident and self assured the man is. The more insecure the man, the more the woman needs to be weak or needy to give him self assurance. It takes a strong self assured man to handle a strong independent woman, and strong women don't care for weak men.

Why would any man want a weak needy woman to be their significant other, when they can have an independent woman who can do almost anything on her own, she make plans on her own and be spontaneous at the same time. Any man who can't deal with this type of woman is surely intimidated and needs to always be in charge.

This depends on the man. However, from my personal experience, I prefer a woman who is independent mostly because this frees time for us to have fun together instead of my tending to someone who is unable to handle her affairs. I think what a man wants is a woman who will come to him when she has something to deal with instead of going to another man. Because, after all, he is Tarzan and she is his Jane and if Jane goes to another man for an opinion or help, especially without letting Tarzan know, then Tarzan's fragile (at times) ego may be bruised a little bit. But this all depends on the individuals involved.
But then I have witnessed relationships where the man is dependent on the woman and vice versa and those were successful relationships. Compatibility is a dynamic thing and often changes based upon the situation and the players. I don't think there is a rule of thumb that can be applied. The bottom line is that if you want to have a long term successful relationship, it is important to recognize that the relationship is bigger than either individual and that one must humble herself or his-self before a relationship in order to allow it to prosper and to grow.

I imagine it depends on the man. I prefer a strong and independent man because I am a strong and independent woman.

I doubt that a man would ever say he wanted a weak or needy woman, but in truth a woman has to be able to be everything! Not really fair is it?
My granny told me that the best woman for any man is one that can be
1. A good sweet girl to take home to mother
2. A smart woman capable of raising a brood of crazy boys.
3. A culenary witch in the kitchen
and
4. A whore in the bedroom
Men want a woman who is the whole package.... They want their woman to be strong and smart when they feel weak and unsure, to be able to handle whatever life throws at them, to be loved and accepted by their family, to be able to fill their stomaches and satisfy their sexual desires fully. They also want to feel needed... but that doesn't mean WE have to be "needy".
In a nutshell....I would say STRONG, but with the ability to put on whatever show your man needs you to :)

It depends on the guy. I think men and women are the same and we get tired of clingy needy people easily! So unless you have issue yourself then you'll want a strong person by your side!
