Well, it isn't the availability of firearms, b/c Canada has a higher ownership % and much lower crime.
It isn't a racial problem, because Europe is full of countries that have diverse makeups that have a fraction of the violent crime we have here in the US.
I've heard a theory that it's because we have a culture of fear, and that we are afraid of those who are different from us. We see a homeless man on the street, we ignore him. We see a black dude on the street, we cross to avoid him. We don't trust the cops even, we think they're all corrupt and have it in for us.
Let me tell you, it's TOUGH living in America and trying to keep a good outlook on life! It's tough to keep a positive attitude when everybody around you is telling you "Don't trust anybody," and "You're going to Hell," and "Listen to me, I know what's best for you."
We are told to trust our leadership, but nobody can get past all the corruption long enough to show some real leadership. We are told to seek good role models but the entertainment industry won't give them air time. We are told to protect ourselves, then we're told we can't protect ourselves and the gummint has to do it, then we're told that the gummint has it in for us and we can't do anything about it. (Then the gummint takes away our habeus corpus and suddenly the Constitution doesn't mean what it used to.)
So yeah, some Americans get STOOPID and join together in gangs and run the streets in their own way. Because there's no other control and they can. And the white suburbanites buy bigger SUVs and take more Prozac and feed the system.
Bad things happen because WE LET THEM HAPPEN. Bad people are in charge because WE LET THEM STAY IN CHARGE. Whether you're talking about Congress or gang wars, Americans have let their own personal power be taken over by authority figures. So some people think there's no reason to behave.

Do you see Americans strapping bombs to themselves and killing everyone standing by? Do you see Americans chopping peoples heads off? How about burning bodies, dragging them threw street, or hanging them from bridges? Maybe you were confused when the news came on. What about the drug wars in other countries that are killing innocent people? There are always going to be 'bad' people, don't just accuse the USA. Just because a few sick/disturbed/confused people have done some bad things doesn't mean the whole US is like that.

Americans are the most peaceful and friendly people on earth. If you look at their track record and history, vs. that of the brutal and inhumane and barbaric imperial and territorial campaigns of the English, French, Spanish, Germans and Italians, the Americans are pacifists in comparison.
See the examples below of the wild and barbarian, and keep your anti-American garbage in your trash can: your mind.

I'm afraid we can no longer ignore the fact that we have become an angry violent society. We continue to emphasize our differences, becoming more polarized daily. With so much anger built up those who are least stable will continue to erupt from time to time. Sadly the most innocent seem to pay the greatest price. What makes matters even worse is that this problem is not limited to just the US. We are living in one of the most unstable periods in modern history.

Why does anyone kill anyone? Again, murder is not limited to Americans by any means. Seems like a lot of Iraqis are killing Iraqis... Mexicans kill Mexicans... Colombians kill Colombians... British kill British...
