For example, if somebody is sick and you pray for them to get better. Does God change his mind about making the person sick? Does He all of a sudden say to Himself "Gee, maybe Jim is right and I shouldn't have given that 80 year old woman cancer..." Or does God just enjoy making people sick so that people will ask Him to make them better? I'm just curious. After all, presumably God knows whats best for ourselves and the world, so does it do us any good to pray for things like health and worldly desires? Won't God just do what He wants to regardless of whether or not we pray?

Good question. Great question! This has to be the core of our human view of prayer in general. Will God answer? Will he just do what he wants anyway? What's the use?

To honestly investigate this question requires a more in depth forum than a few lines here. So may I direct you to an on line book from my favorite Bible scholar? I believe that it will help to give you a deeper understanding of these questions.

Only the gods possess the knowledge of good and evil as the fruit of that tree will only nourish the gods. So we think that the illness is an evil but what do we know? Only the gods have this knowledge. We can pray to make ourselves feel better, not to change the minds of the gods. When there's nothing you can do about something praying makes it feel like your doing something.

Prayer works by making the person praying feel better. I don't know if praying for somebody else without telling them so will help that other person.
Even if there is no god involved it should work for some people. After all placebo pills work too despite there is no medication involved. All in the power of ones mind.
But like the placebo effect, it will help more the more you believe in its efficacy.

sickness and death is from sin not God. God heals. He knows a person's heart and he knows if someone is sorry for their sins. There are also what they call victim souls who accept suffering for others. Prayers of righteous people are always heard and answered sometimes maybe the answer is something we don't understand. For instance a dieing person who everybody is praying for a miracle maybe that person is like a baby who needs to go to sleep (as long as the person is right with God) because it is only in dieing that we are completely healed by being born into Heaven. Sometimes it is our Guardian Angels who relate things to Heaven because it says that every "Little one's" angel sees the face of the Father.

As far as I know the pray is a knd of worship so it must be done with intend to get love of God for us It must not be done for the results itself THE DIFFICULT STUATİONS ARE JUST EXACT TIMES FOR PRAYING BECAUSE AT THAT TIMES we become the most sincere and ask most strongly On the other hand pray is one of the way changing the fate, results are decided together with their reasons so different choices are set for example if Betty pray for this at the exam she will pass and ıf she does not pray at the same exam she will not pass the exam this is just example so it cahanges the result but our only aim must not be getting a certain result All the best : )

Most haters do believe that believers think God passes out the calamity as well as the blessings. Sin passes out the calamity. Sin= US. We brought it on ourselves. God blesses who He will. Prayer is given to us so we can align our will with His. It's not a gemmie time it's a time to become more like God... Jim

God doesn't make anyone sick, the fall caused sin and death to enter into the world

You are confused. God did not give that woman cancer, she got it from smoking, breathing polution, etc. Prayer merely is asking God to help her. Its not her fault, but its not Gods fault either.

Prayer definitely works.

It makes tell-a-lie-evangelists rich.

Ooops, I mean televangelists.

Anyway, I'll show you how it works:
1. Send me money.
2. I'll pray for you.
3. I'll get rich.

See how it works?
