going to Waikiki at the end of the month. Thought about buying a board and bringing it. I live in Maine so, it wouldn't really get much use here and I am not sure what would be involved brining it on the plane. Are there any deals on renting a board or buying it used? I don't want to get ripped off

We called one rental place that said the only place to surf was the north shore and you needed to rent a car to get a surf board there, the bus wouldn't take surf boards....is that true?

Boards rent for pretty cheap on Waikiki (usually 20/h or deals for the whole day and week, I've only done hourly rentals). Check out local surf shops and the bord rental places right on the water. Also check out the Activity Store they may have rental deals as well. For beginner surfers Wikiki is nice surfing (area just to the right of the Duke statue). North shore would be a little bigger this time of year (and HUGE in December - February). Best thing to do is ask one of the locals. They will always be glad to tell you the best surf shop to rent from. Your hotel front desk will have that kind of info (and maybe some discount booklets to help you even more!).
It wouldn't be worth it to buy one unless you plan on surffing at Old Orchard Beach next summer!

Almost every surf shop in Waikiki rents boards. The better deals are off the beach. I was just there this summer and the board selection has improved a lot.

I might check out journey businesses. From what I have obvious across the faculties and universities there are journey businesses or corporations partnered with those businesses in order to promote you a well kit. They understand that almost all scholars are broke so the package a host of offers. Usually they're very fair. I stated as a rule depwnding on had been u are.

Expect to pay $100 to $120 for a week rental. I know some of the pricier hotels have surfboards available for guests free of charge.
