Louise & Pat R have given you good answers. I lived in Turkey for 5 years & every bit of jewellery I've had has lasted longer & been worth more than anything I ever bought in the UK. I'm now in Canada & a jeweller here saw two of my jewellery items & raved about the quality. So it can't be bad. As the other girls have said, any reputable shop will give you a Certificate. Also, if you check with the local tour companies, they will recommend a good jeweller.

No you dont need a certificate ,over the last 15 years ive bought lots of beautiful jewellery from Turkey and had it valued back in the U,K....its worth almost double what you paid for it ,the jewellers are very reputable, and can be closed down by the authorities for any wrongdoing !!!

A certificate still doesn't mean it's authentic. Anyone can fake a certificate as well. What's more important is that you're buying from a reputable company or source.

For example, if you're buying from a big department store, it's probably safe. They will stand behind their products. However, if you're buying from someone on ebay (in Turkey), you'll need to be more skeptical. There are lots of ripoff artists out there. Don't be fooled.

You know what they say....Buyer Beware!

As one of the earlier answerers said, a certificate is hardly worth the paper it's written on... If you buy from a reputable jewellery store you can pretty much trust them. Much of it is hand-made, and the cheaper stuff isn't necessarily finished very well. That said, their gold (for example) is higher grade than what you get in the UK - here the high street chains sell as 'gold' 9K and 12K stuff which isn't recognised as gold on the Continent. In the Middle East gold is often 20K, 22K or even 24K, so it's the 'real thing'.

I've bought some lovely pieces of jewellery from Turkey and any jeweller worth his salt will give you a certificate with your item automatically. I've had one with everything I've bought.

For what its worth get your item valued back at home and you'll find its worth at least double.

Genuine what?
The certificate will probably not be worth the paper it is written on.
