I have had VERY good luck with Nike and New Balance running shoes. If you can afford to, you should spend the money for a really good pair of running shoes and ONLY wear them for running. Best pair of running shoes I ever had were New Balance 990's, but they have newer models now...

It really depends on your type of feet and what type of running you will be doing. Nike and Adidas seem to have pretty high arches which alot of people like. Its also a matter of how much room in the toebox your prefer. I wear Brooks because they have great cushioning as well as a generous toebox. I've worn alot of Asics too, and they are nice as well offering a pretty large range of options.

The other question is, what kind of runnung will you be doing? Treadmill? Roads? Trails? Most major running shoe manufacturers offer options for all of these surfaces.

My other recommendation is to go to a specialty running shoe store that can answer questions and maybe even take a look at wether your feet pronate or not.

Hope this helps. Good luck, and have fun running!

If you require running shoes for running (not fashion), then you have to try different ones to see which ones fit your feet the best. Nike and Adidas do make good running shoes but for some people, certain brands fit better than others.

I personally like New Balance because they fit my fee the best and are comfortable.

Addidas have always done it for me!
I would Never Consider Nike! The Style and support was Always Wrong!
I later relented and Purchased a pair of Nike Air Running Shoes!
I used them 3 times then Binned them!

Addidas are still the best for Comfort and design!

New Balance have been the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. I used to do 4 miles in 30 minutes on the treadmill and my feet never bothered me.

I have a pair of Avia shoes, and I love them, but I have geard good things about New Balance as well.

There is a group, and I am not sure of the website, but I think it is:

www.charmcityrun.com (or .org, not totally sure)

and they put out a runner's guide, and just released a new shoe guide. If there are copies left at the YMCA, I will try to hold on for you.

it's not really the brand, but the support that matters. one important thing is that the shoes supports the arch of your feet because this is where most injuries occur -- and also the shoes should support your heel also.

shoes that are lighter (less heavy) are also good because it doesn't put a lot of strain on your feet.
