To give more details. I used to weigh 333lbs, and now I weigh 167. I want to keep the weight I have, but I really don't like snacking throughout the day. I rather just eat three meals. I feel if I am snacking that can lead to overeating. I am eating oatmeal in the morning, but by 9:30 my stomach starts to growl. Anything would help. Thanks Guys!.

You've seen some say high fiber, which means complex carbs. Others have said protein, such as meats, cheeses and nuts.

In actuality, it's both, but the proteins need to be lean. Fats and carbs ping-pong off each other and make your body crave more food very quickly. They may fill you up, but you'll end up being hungry very soon. As evidence, consider how you feel after eating Chinese food. Lots of protein, but lots of carbs from the rice and noodles. And lots of hunger later on.

Lean protein, mainly chicken and fish, matched with complex carbs, like brown rice and sweet potatoes. That always seems to work best.

Food that are high in fiber help keep you full. Any food that has 5 grams of fiber or more per serving is considered high fiber. I have been eating oatmeal for breakfast, and having an apple (with the skin) or some dry roasted sunflower seeds for a snack. I like to eat sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes since they have more fiber and less carbs. I also eat whole grain bread whenever I can.

If you avoid simple sugars and make sure that your meals and snack contain a little fat, some protein and fiber you will stay full feeling much longer because mixed meals take longer to digest. You will also have the benefit of a more stable blood sugar and insulin levels which should decrease cravings and make the food you eat less likely to be stored as fat.

Protein and whole grains. Protein for the actual nutrition, and whole grains for the feeling of fullness that keeps you from wanting to munch too soon. You should also be sure you get enough vitamins when you are dieting. A good supplement, including minerals, is an important factor in keeping healthy enough to lose weight without losing energy.

The whole grains are also fuel, of course, as well as fiber, to keep the lower part of your body functioning as it should.

Don't worry, you will get more than enough fat in the process of getting these other foods. And keep refined sugar out of your diet to the extent possible; that's what causes the roller-coaster effects in your blood sugar levels that is often called hypoglycemia, and can result in diabetes if not controlled.

Good luck!

Protien ...

it'll tell your body to stop when it's full of that LOL
believe me
(and protein just doesn't come from meat, so look around ok)

Also anything rich in MultiGrains FULL Grains
Compacted Whole Grain will fill ya up too

also munch on some nuts and fruits throughout the day, it'll keep you from getting really hungry and having junk food snack attacks

;-)
LOL

Cya!
::: Peace :::

Proteins take longer to digest and keep you feeling full longer. For breakfast, you can try protein bars or the new high protein cereals. For lunch, try to eat white meats that are grilled or baked. For snacks there are all kinds of high protein mixes with lower calories that you can try. The food will never be the thing to keep you from overeating...that will be your effort, but proteins can help you stop the feeling of hunger. You can also try to drink more liquids to feel full..... Crystal Light mixes have almost no calories and some of them have added vitamin C. Good luck!

Fibre, wholegrain, what the others said. You know, nutrional bars etc. I eat alot of sweet stuff (not necessarily sweets, but you know bakes which varies from biscuits to nice stuff what Muslim people eat after Ramadan, not them necessarily but what ever) keep me full and i dont have to eat dinner, like right now, i dont feel hungry. Anyway, dont follow my idea. When you feel hungry, you might actually be thirsty, so you can drink some water to kill the 'hunger'. It works with me too, it also keeps you full for along time, really depends on how much you drink. Have a nice day and good luck!

Dear Libra,

Eggs have been proven to keep a person's hunger at bay for up to 14 hours.

Eating anything sweet early in the day results in cravings for sweet things all day long. The longer you can put off eating sweets, the better.

Also, did you know that drinking carbonated drinks leaches the calcium from your bones? Something we women need to be careful about.

Sodas can add up to about 15 lbs. to your weight annually.

Avoiding things like sweets and eating foods that are slow to digest (whole grains, eggs, etc.) are smart ideas that you thought of.

Keep to a healthy plan and enjoy at least some good stretching exercises to keep your flexibility high, and you should be able to handle your weight well indefinitely. Good luck to you, hon. Here's to a lovely, long, healthy life for you. :)

Fiber.

You're better off if you eat many small meals per day. You said you don't like this approach, but you have to change your mindset. Eating enough to fill you for only 2-3 hours is the best bet. It will speed up your metabolism.

Oatmeal is a great source of fiber and complex carbs. Stay away from sugars.

what you want is fulfilled not full.

try this instead.. go here for a reference first of all..

www.mypryamid.gov

this diet is a good well balanced one.. you won't have to give up anything and you won't starve to death once you get into it.

a full feeling isn't a satisfied feeling.. once you understand that then you'll not have trouble keeping the weight down.

remember many overweight people don't get enough nutrients and vitamins... and though they may be 'full' they're still hungry and the body will burn up as much as the meal as possible and then it'll be all starved again.

try to get foods with many minerals and vitamins and work on from there... that will help!

it's not the full feeling you're looking for it's the fulfilled feeling the feeling of your hunger completely gone not the stomach is packed.

also remember you may not be hungry you may just be thirsty!

think on these things.. as you try to help yourself from this problem...
