two Americans who, by studying radiation, proved the Big Bang in 1989.

Why the hell are some people still debating this???

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) -- Americans John C. Mather and George F. Smoot have won the 2006 Nobel Prize in physics for work that helped cement the big-bang theory of the universe.

Mather, 60, works at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, and Smoot, 61, works at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California.

Their work was based on measurements done with the help of the NASA-launched COBE satellite in 1989. They were able to observe the universe in its early stages about 380,000 years after it was born. Ripples in the light they detected also helped demonstrate how galaxies came together over time.

"The very detailed observations that the laureates have carried out from the COBE satellite have played a major role in the development of modern cosmology into a precise science," the academy said in its citation.

Last year, Americans John L. Hall and Roy J. Glauber and German Theodor W. Haensch won the prize for work that could improve long-

They found radiation that, based on its temperature readings, they postulated was old enough to be a result of the Big Bang supporting the theory. They did not prove that there was a Big Bang as the theory states. They did not view anything. They only interpreted something.

The radiation could just a well have been from the explosion of a much more massive star than any we are currently aware of.

I think, among the sane community, the debate is now whether the universe was created by a big bang or a big crackling noise.

Hey, this might be a good place it spit out my new theory. I thought of it but it's not to say I was the first.

Humping Jesus' Theory on the Big Bang.

The universe is filled with dust, debre, planets, stars and all kinds of matter (light and dark). Over time, the force of gravity creates black holes and those black holes only continue to grow and swallow matter. They become very large and 'clean up' all of space. Eventually, you get a region of space where to very large black holes get close enough that their gravitational fields meet and they begin to pull themselves together. When these to black holes merge, they become so dense and contain so much potential energy that they explode and thus the big bang. The universe expands for a while and then gets cleaned up by more black holes and cycles through this process. None of this is proven (that I know of) but it paints a pretty picture.

No, they did not prove the big bang. They only found an explanation based on "certain presuppositions". The big bang is still just a popular theory-not a fact. Many people get way ahead of science in this area.

Because they didn't prove it, they found evidence supporting it (not that I disagree with them, but its pretty much impossible to prove anything based on observation). If they had conclusively proved it, then creationists wouldn't have a leg (however small and pathetic) to stand on whatsoever.

I don't know... I've never seen better proof for God's existance than the Big Bang Theory.

Because they are SATANIC, those evil scientists are working for SATAN and must be destroyed!!!

I wonder why thumpers go to atheist doctors instead of relying on "faith healing"?
