I have a basset hound which has a very particular smell (as hounds usually do). I think it got stronger in the past 1.5 years since I moved to Europe. He gets baths one a month and in a couple of days the smell is back. I heard giving them co-Q10 will help (which is an anti-oxidant). anyone tried it? Any other suggestions?

a bath on regular basis is good, but you must also wash/launder any bedding in the crate, pillows, etc or the smell goes back on the dog. after cleaning the crate each time you bathe the dog, you can spray febreez on the bedding.. wait until the spray dries before putting the dog back in the crate or pillow bed.

If he is an indoor pooch, I would definitely bath a bit more frequently and launder all bedding often! Our clinic doesn't recommend anti-oxidants but oatmeal shampoos kill odor nicely. Also doggy-wipes and scented pet sprays(make sure they are formulated for pets!) do a great job of covering up odor. Dogs unfortunately are just gonna be a little smelly.

I would suggest getting a grooming once a month from Aussie Pet Mobile. They come to your house and groom your dog or cat using the best cleansers for your pets on the market. my neighbors do is an outside dog, and after 3 weeks still smells good. Call and ask them what they use.

Never heard of giving a dog co-q10. After I bathe my dog, I put Mitchum (people deodorant) on him. It helps keep the odors away for a while.

No I have not tried that. Our Lab gets smelly too. We bath her every 8-12 days. clean her ears every week. Wash her bedding.
You may want to try baking soda and vac the carpeting real good too. On older dogs be sure yopu are feeding them senior food and vitamins help too.

GOOD LUCk

omg! i had a basset hound for 17 years! and the older he became the "dirty socks" smell became stronger as well. you just can't get rid of that "particular smell". poor bassets they're so cute and adorable but smelly. just keep his ears clean, they can get yeast infections in their ears, so take him to vet to make sure that's not the case with your basset baby, and enjoy him as long as you can.

I've never tried that. But I wash my stinky poodle in Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap a few times a month and it has really toned things down.

I reccomend a spray on coat conditioner. They make all sorts of diffrents kinds including one that gets rid of natural oders. I tryed it on my dog and it keeps her coat healthy and keeps her smelling great
