If you see a prostitute in Vegas on the strip wearing hot pink hooker boots and a leopard print mini skirt, does this mean all women who wear hot pink hooker boots and leopard print mini skirts are prostitutes?
If you see a lady on the street going to the nightclub in this attire, do you assume she wishes to be sexually assaulted?
Do you assume she accepts money for sex based on this attire?
Are you justified in assuming whatever you do about this lady, and putting her down? When you don't even know her?

I'm trying hard to makes sense of why Muslims think they way they do and have a balanced view of this. It's just to expound on my previous question, and some of the answers I received.

Women can wear the most outlandish outfits to nightclubs and think they're styling. I might think she was low class and looking for some action, but I would never think anyone had the right to assault her or assume she was charging for it. She could be walking down the street butt naked and no one has the right to assault her. I acknowledge I am putting her down by assuming she has no taste or class and I suppose that makes me a snob. Justified? No, I'm sure I'm not, but I'm being truthful about my snobbery if that helps :).
I've seen the repeated questions from Muslims about how Western women dress. It always, but ALWAYS, comes down to why our men LET us dress this way. To me there is such a difference in culture it can't even be adequately addressed in such a small forum. I respond with vigor to those questions, but usually am expressing my disdain for a culture that controls and abuses its women.

The lady brings it upon herself when she wears stuff like that. She might be completely opposite of what people assume based on her attire, but she should be smart enough to know what the stereotype is.
Just like when a kid is wearing the baggy pants, crooked hat, and a shirt that goes to his knees. People will assume he might be up to no good.
Society judges on first impressions whether you like it or not.

No,no and no. No woman, "deserves" to be a victim. I learned a long time ago in sales, you never judge someones occupation or income based on their looks. The guy who looks rich may owe everyone in the country and the guy in the old overalls may own cattle on a thousand hills.

You're attempting to understand an entire, different, cultural philosophy based on your OWN cultural philosopy. That cannot be done. In order for you to understand their viewpoint and how it evolved, you would have to actually study that culture, their history, their religion, their society in GREAT depth. Reading news stories and getting a SENSE of their culture through the lens of your own will NOT result in understanding.
If it's any help at all, consider that they are just as confused about our attitudes and predjudices as we are about theirs.

More like, I wonder why she is wearing what she is wearing. That outfit makes you stand out, you have to be wearing it for SOME reason. But I can't assume why, because, unless I ask her, I will never know...

first, I would think that she was odd, for wearing hot pink boots with a leopard print. I'm a straight man and I know that doesn't match. :P

Yikes. It is always easy to assume the worst about people. That is why the bible tells us to dress modestly. If you have a great character and personality, then it is better to dress down so as not to destract from your good qualities. :0)

well you do have a point. i think that from movies and just plain life that when you see someone who dresses like that and goes into a club you just assume that she is a prostitute.

No...that's called stereotyping. But think of a situation when you have seen someone dressed a certain way and you have placed them in a category.
