no....other wise you will be back in the habit unless your associates change kick the habit as well. The probability of success is much lower if you hang out with the same people that are doing the same thing you are trying to stop.

NO, this is a recipe for a relapse.

The same crowd will still be doing drugs, talking about doing drugs. They may be supportive and keep their friend from doing them - but if you are trying to kick the habit - why would you stay around people who do drugs and talk about doing drugs - that's a form of self torture, and you are bound to relapse. It may start small "oh, just one joint won't hurt me" or "I'll just snort one line, just this one time"

and BAM, drug habit back in full swing. Why tempt fate?

A full recovery isn't just about not doing the drugs, it's about LIFESTYLE changes that help you KEEP from doing drugs. And those "friends" who do drugs, aren't friends. They are drug users. You can find better people to hang out with.

A person who is trying to kick a drug habit should not be hanging with the same crowd they got high with. It's just too tempting and odds are they will fall back in their old ways. The person needs to get new friends who don't use and continue to work on being sober and turning over a new leaf.
People who get high aren't going to hide their drugs from the recovering addict and eventually someone is gonna have a moment of weakness and the recovering addict is gonna give in. It's just common sense - if you aren't a druggie then you don't hang out with druggies.

You are right--in that a true friend would not even make drugs available to this person.

But, you have to understand--kicking a drug habit is more than just the habit of consuming the drug...but kicking all the behaviors and surrounding context that was associated with the habit---including separating yourself from friends; especially friends in which you had consumed the drug with.

If you are "the true friend," be a true friend and try to understand this--and give your friend the space he/she needs. It is for the benefit of your friends health and ability to kick the habit and change both their behavior and life. Life comes with very hard knocks sometimes....even for "true friends."

There may come a day when your friend may be able to be in contact with you again---but then again, that really might not be possible. If your friend comes around---being a "true friend," the first thing I would ask, "Wtf are you doing here???"

I give you a big hug!

I've been in health care for over 10yrs. All former addicts tell me that the reason they relapsed is because they have fallen back with the same "old" crowd. Those that have been successful have left the old life behind completely. Yes, a TRUE friend would not make that substance available to you.

I find that it is hard to hang around with the same group because of influence. The person who is on drugs does not have a dependent mind for knowing whats right and wrong can influence the other person who is recently off-drugs. I know 2 close relatives in the similar position. One managed to stay away from it because for hanging around with positive people who influence them in a good. and the other still on and off because he still hangs around with a group of no-life people.

The truth about drugs is that it controls people's mind. It makes the person suffer in pain if not available for use and develop bad habits. Generally to obtain these certain drugs the person will do anything even life threatening to get it. It can mean selling off friends and family to get money for drugs.

Drugs makes you become somewhere else. it controls your mind. You are no longer the person you are. My families and friends all suffer from it. and its a pain to see our loved ones become controled bo the substance. DIE DRUGS DIE

well if the person who is trying to quit drugs! should find a new group of friends so he isn't presueded to return to old habits!
it's not saying that your current friends are bad they are just bad for you at this time! so I would hang out with them not as a group one on one so you don't get the :how things use to be: erges again!
if your changing your lifestyle your friends are going to change anyway!
that's what happend to me! even tho i don't talk to them much any more but that's because they are still stuck in the same place i have grown and improved my life they well are still sitting in front of the tv complaining about how bad live sucks!
Sorry but your a good person but you need to take control of your life like i did mine ..
That's what i told my friends! well they didn't like it much but should i hold my life back for them!
??
why when they are growing for me!!!
Well hope this shines some light for you
Mad luv

NO!!!

One of the first gigs any program, IE: AA, any drug rehab program will tell ya'!!!

Inpatient drug treatment removes the individual from drug using friends, the pressures of work and any other factors which contribute to their drug use on an everyday basis.

Get away from them! They will only bring u down. If they respect u as a true friend would they would give u ur space so u can clean up. Once u are clean u will see that that is a lifestyle u don't want to be involve with anyway.

The temptation to start again would probably ALWAYS be a factor. Then there's the peer pressure which is not a good thing.

I would say if you wanted to hang with the same people- ask them to curb their habits or take it outside.

Good luck and have a great day!!!
