Today two men hijacked a turkish plane in protest to the Pope's recent quotation stating that Islam uses the sword to resolve its problems as well as to make converts. Isn't it ironic the reaction still going on all because of one quote taken out of context.

Joe L, the context it was taken out of was why the Pope cited this quote. His point was not to validate it but more to use it as a contrast.

As far as its point I was referring to the quote itself.

I suggest in the future to ask first before assuming.

Joe L, as for you last question it is the frequency as well as gravity of violence being done in the name of Islam that prods me to ask Muslims to account for themselves. I am sure that many do not agree with these actions but how many are going out of their way to stop these things from happening in their name? This perception makes one question if there is a general underlining sympathy within the muslim community, a sympathy that may be stemming from certain texts such as the Koran, hadiths, as well as the sharia.

brendagho, yes if violent acts consistently happened in the name of Catholicism I would question there underlining belief too. In fact I heavily criticism the Catholic Church of past ages who commited many atrocities, which in my opinion were validated from old testament law.

Oh my, look at all these posts. It turns out that the hijacker is not a Muslim terrorist, but it's so easy to blame the Muslims for anything and then write such scenarios. He's a guy who is trying to get out of his military service. Wait for your updated news before you write such comic scenarios guys.

*Applauds*

Here in Turkish news it says the guy is a Catholic guy who doesn't want to serve as a soldier in a Muslim country. And he's protesting Pope because he wrote a letter to Pope telling this and that Pope didn't do anything about this. I'm quite enjoying this news because this is the real irony.

It is not that extremists are leading the religion, it is that extremists are leading the news. Would you watch a news cast that every day shows the millions of ordinary Muslims going about their daily lives in peace? How many watchers would that get? A mother taking her child to school, going to work and a father working and playing soccer with his children. It is like everything on the news, the more sensational the more time it gets on the TV. And although the hijacking is wrong, Muslims are frustrated all over the world right now. No one is listening!!
The Palestinians do not have a homeland and the rest of the world has stood by and let Isreal try to commit genocide against them without doing anything. But if they fight for their homeland they are terrorists. The Pope as head of the church should be held to a higher standard than the ordinary man, his words and actions have the power to influence many people, incite hatred and violence and the rest of the workd just says "we dont understand why you are so upset". It is like the cartoons published about the Prophet Mohammed(pbuh). The rest of the world just didnt understand. The sad thing is that if these cartoons were published ridiculing the God of Catholics and Christians they would'nt mind nearly as much. It would not create a scandal. Muslims respect Allah and the Prophet Mohammed(pbuh). We do not ridicule him and we believe that everyone should show respect for them. If the rest of the world would listen, pay attention to the discrimination that goes on every day against Muslims all over the world maybe we could have a dialog. Maybe if we cared about the Muslim Arab countries as much as we care for their oil and gas something would get done.
And btw, why are Muslims to blame for the actions of two men? if it had been Catholics would you be asking this question?

not one place interior the bible does it let us know the region of pope will oversee the church. The bible tells us the church is the physique with Christ because of the fact the top. The term pope is yet another a be conscious which potential Father. The bible tells us we are actually not use this term in this way of way, for we've basically one father. Now, there's a management functionality interior the church, being that of bishop. yet, the region of apostle became into certainly the top of the church after Christ. The question that remained is what's an apostle? Many have self assurance that a guy can basically be an apostle if he were appointed by potential of Christ himself. yet, there is not something written that would grant that validity. there have been adult men over the centuries that i've got self assurance would ok have been apostles, including Steven, the 1st martyr and William Tynsdale who became into burned on the stake for translating God's be conscious into English against the threats of the papacy. As for the 1st pope, the catholic church boasts Peter became into the 1st, yet i don't think of they have valid evidence of the 2nd, third, fourth and so. on. i don't think of there is checklist. i've got self assurance that the early church fathers at last became tagged with the identify pope by potential of the catholic church in later years. once you study the early writings of those now tagged as pope, the genuine place they actually held became into that of bishop. Pope Marcellinus is the 1st Bishop of Rome shown in supplies to have had the identify "Pope" used of him. He became bishop in 296 advert. The term catholic potential standard. Ignatius of Antioch is the earliest bishop to apply the term catholic in a letter to describe the church. yet, i've got self assurance it became into not until eventually the third or forth century advert that the identify catholic church became first rate.

In summation, a cartoon is printed that portrays Muslims as violent and they go on a rampage. The pope mentions a passage about Muslims in the same vain and Muslims rampage. Muslims, in order to protest the Pope's comments about Islamic intolerance, hijack a plane full of innocent people. How come no ones doing a story on the irony here?

How many Muslims are there in the world? More than a billion people.

How many violent people are there?

Hardly they reach 0.000005 %

Why are you generalizing your comments to all of them?

Are you afraid that more and more people are entering this religion or what?

I really don't understand why some people have this much hate and stereotyping on Muslims!!!

First, you refer to "its point," and then you say it was "taken out of context." You are therefore saying that you interpreted it correctly, but other people did not. How do you know it is not the other way around?

What was its point, and in what manner did they misinterpret it?

Of course, there is also the obvious question, what makes you think that the act of a few could serve as an indictment on millions or billions of people?

I know the statement the pope quoted refered to Islam as a religion of violence and guess what the reaction is you guessed it violence. Islam is a religion spread by the sword if you studied your history of northern africa you would see at least one example.

Yes it is. Its revolting! And what's worse is that Muslims are going to find every answer (stupid as it may be) too defend this.

Their argument is going to be not all Muslims are like that etc... The fact is the majority of Muslims are moderates yet the extremists are leading the religion. Evil is when good man stand by and witness such inhumane things yet they do nothing to stop it.

No, it does not validate the point. Do you think Muslims are stupid?
"Oh hey he says we are violent, LETS GO HIJACK A PLANE?!"
Amazing logic? Terrorists are people who are misinformed and warped by the current status of Muslim countries today.
There are no Muslim countries without major problems with poverty, disease, war and/or leaders who are socially stratifying its people.
How can a Saudi Prince spend billions of dollars to build the world's largest yacht while his Muslim brothers and sisters don't have enough to feed themselves.
Oh wait that doesn't matter? *sarcasm*

Religion is always a scapegoat.
